Booth No. C-130 | Hall 11.1 | November 7 - 10, 2024
Experiencing the transcendation of time and culture, the two London-based galleries Bartha_contemporary and Joost van den Bergh invite you to the mindfully curated fusion of Ancient philosophies with modern creativity at this year's edition of Art Cologne. Revisiting the theme of juxtaposing Tantric Art with works by contemporary artists, the expanding narrative will showcase new and unique voices in the art world.
For Art Cologne 2024, we have chosen to include Stephan Baumkötter, Susan Morris, and Hadi Tabatabai-three contemporary artists invited to create works that resonate deeply with the essence of Tantric art. Their contributions will explore the profound influence of Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, Jainism, Vajrayana, Bönpo, Ayurveda, and Shamanism on contemporary practice, demonstrating how these ancient philosophies continue to inspire and shape modern art.
Visitors to Booth No. C-130 in Hall 11.1 will encounter a thought-provoking presentation that bridges cultural divides and reframes contemporary art within an innovative, spiritually rich context. This exhibition highlights the relevance of traditional spiritual practices in today's art. It aligns with Art Cologne's 'Collaborations' theme, offering a refreshing perspective on the ongoing dialogue between the past and present.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to Art Cologne 2024.

Bartha_contemporary was founded in January 2000 when Niklas and Daniela von Bartha set up a new destination for abstract and conceptual art in London.
Niklas von Bartha, who grew up in Basel, Switzerland, belongs to a family with a rich tradition in the art world. After meeting his German wife, Daniela, during their time at Christie's Education in London, they both gained further experience working with renowned art galleries and auction houses across Europe. Inspired by their shared passion for contemporary art, it only felt natural to open their own space.
Initially operating from their small basement flat in South Kensington, the gallery's carefully selected program soon attracted a loyal and growing following. Focussing on thoughtfully curated exhibitions of diverse art forms, the gallery soon outgrew its original setting.
In March 2003, Bartha_contemporary embarked on a new chapter and moved to a space on Lancaster Road in Notting Hill. The gallery's new location on the first floor above the renowned Alistair Little restaurant became a distinct location, boasting an infamous bullet hole above its entrance door.
Over the coming years, the gallery expanded its presence by participating in many international art fairs in places like New York, Chicago, Houston, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Basel, Geneva, Amsterdam, Maastricht and Uruguay, connecting it with a broader audience and cementing its reputation for its consequent program of abstract and conceptual art.
The gallery began a new phase in 2012 by relocating to Margaret Street in vibrant Fitzrovia. With the setting of a street-level public space, Bartha_contemporary was able to achieve more visibility and to reach out to a bigger audience. Enriching its program, the gallery hosted occasional collaborations with other dealers and invited artists to create site-specific installations.
Bartha_contemporary changed direction in 2019 and established a private space on Bury Street in London St. James. This exclusive venue, accessible by appointment only, provided a discreet platform for contemporary culture in the heart of London, facilitating a more intimate engagement with art.
Coming full circle in 2021, the gallery relocated to its current space in Ledbury Mews North in Notting Hill, occupying a former photography studio and showcasing an impressive infinity curve on its far wall. Ledbury Mews offers a residential ambience, inviting a sense of tranquillity and serenity within a relaxed setting.
