Nature & Forest Therapy for Wellness - Incorporating Nature Therapy into Clinical Practice

Unique clinical therapeutic wellness training enables licensed mental health counselors and social workers to learn about the value of nature therapy
PRINCETON, Mass. - September 20, 2024 - Wildflower's Walks today announced that it is sponsoring a therapeutic training event called Nature & Forest Therapy for Wellness - Incorporating Nature Therapy into Clinical Practice, which will take place at Cornerstone Ranch in central Massachusetts on October 12, 2024. The course, conducted by Erin Flowers, LMHC, ANFT, provides 3.5 continuing education credits for licensed mental health counselors and social workers.

Flowers, a certified Nature & Forest Therapy guide, offers "guided walks" in her practice to improve clients' mental well-being and introduce them to the healing effects of nature. The technique is based on Nature & Forest Therapy, also known as Forest Bathing, which is famous in Japan and all over the world as a wellness practice. Anyone can improve their mind-set with Nature & Forest Therapy activities - spending time in nature is an effective tool for combating depression, anxiety and loneliness.

Forest bathing was recognized in 2023 by the U.S. Psychiatric Association for its many physical and psychiatric health benefits. The restorative practice, known as "Shinrin-yoku" in Japanese, was developed to help people reconnect and commune with nature. Shinrin-yoku translates to, "taking in the atmosphere," or "medicine of the forest."

"Forest Therapy is incredibly beneficial," said Flowers. "Nature & Forest Therapy provides many benefits, including decreased stress, improved mood, a better immune system, and reduced blood pressure."

The setting for the course will be the beautiful and serene Cornerstone Ranch, whose location borders the towns of Rutland and Princeton, Massachusetts. The land is protected from future development, while allowing the public to enjoy its horseback trails, horse-drawn wagons and sleigh rides. Training starts at 9:00 AM. The experience includes a delicious, healthy ranch-style breakfast for all participants.
