Tips for Feeding Wild Birds in Autumn
The changing seasons bring with them a whole new set of challenges for the wild birds in your garden. As birds prepare for the winter in autumn by eating as many extra calories as possible, it is more important than ever to put out food for our feathered friends. Here are some tips to bear in mind when you're feeding wild birds in autumn:OFFER HIGH-ENERGY FOODS
As summer turns to autumn, wild birds need to eat as much as possible in order to get ready for the cold winter months. You can help out by providing the birds in your garden with high-fat and high-energy foods like suet, peanuts, sunflower seeds and peanut butter.

KEEP UP A ROUTINE
It's good to keep up a feeding routine all year round; however, it is particularly important to do so in autumn and winter so that the birds in your garden know when food is likely to be available.
During periods of severe cold, your birds may need to be fed multiple times per day, so account for this and adjust the amount of food you offer based on demand. Be careful not to let uneaten food build up, though-unclean feeders can deter birds from visiting your garden!
CHECK WATER SOURCES
Just because the sun isn't shining doesn't mean that the birds in your garden don't require water! Maintaining a clean water source in your garden all year round is essential-birds always need to drink and bathe. The best way to ensure your birds have access to water is by using a purpose-made bird bath.

Also, don't forget to check whether your water sources have frozen over in cold weather and put out fresh water if they have!
