Tips to Help Preserve Your Mind, Spirit and Body for Healthy Aging Month

09-09-2016 11:28 AM CET | Health & Medicine

Press release from: Envolve

In honor of Healthy Aging Month, the health experts at Envolve, an integrated healthcare solutions company, are pleased to share five tips for preserving your mind, spirit and body for overall health and wellbeing.

1. Make a move. Maintain a healthy body and lifestyle by exercising and adding movement to each day. Go for a walk, take a hike, or maybe learn something new like yoga or Tai Chi. These activities can help you stay healthy longer while improving your agility and strength, which is important as we age.
2. Be a social butterfly. Devote some time to surrounding yourself with happy, positive people who will boost your mood and morale. Take a class, give of yourself and volunteer, play games, gather with old friends or start building new relationships – just make a connection with others.
3. Take a bite out of life. Eating high fiber foods such as beans or apples can help regulate your digestive system, as well as benefit your heart health. Also, start spicing up your life with new herbs and spices in your cooking. Some flavorful herbs you can grow on a windowsill or in your own backyard include cilantro, mint, basil, thyme, and chives. Eating healthy is important, because daily food choices make a difference in overall health – both on the inside and outside of your body.
4. Reinvent yourself. It is never too late to make a positive change! Think about your current self and how you would like to improve in the future. Use your time wisely this month and do something that you have never done, always wanted to do, or want to get back to doing. This can include learning how to paint, reading more books, taking cooking classes, or maybe even learning how to play tennis. The possibilities are endless.
5. Schedule the important stuff. Part of looking out for yourself is maintaining your health and preventing possible future issues. Use this month to set up your annual physical, dental examination, and other health screening appointments. Taking an active role in managing your health through these appointments is just one way to commit to living a long, healthy life!
