Ravi Kishan dedicates free mobile medical unit for rural Gorakhpur

Member of Parliament and Actor Ravi Kishan has dedicated the 'Smile on Wheels' mobile medical units, supported by MSD, to provide free OPD services and medicines in villages. This initiative will initially serve 12 villages in the Gorakhpur district.

Launched by MSD Pharma in partnership with Smile Foundation, each mobile medical unit is equipped with qualified doctors, paramedical staff, point-of-care services, and diagnostic facilities. The units aim to strengthen and supplement the government's healthcare system by enhancing the availability and quality of primary healthcare services in rural areas. The project focuses on improving the health of pregnant and lactating mothers, raising awareness about immunization and antenatal/postnatal care, and supporting access to secondary and tertiary healthcare services. Additionally, counselling sessions will be organized to educate communities about preventive health measures and relevant government welfare schemes.

Ravi Kishan expressed his gratitude to MSD Pharmaceuticals and Smile Foundation for their collaboration, stating, "This project will significantly improve healthcare services for children, mothers, and the broader community in Gorakhpur."

Chand Berry, Chief Financial Officer of MSD India Region, also thanked Ravi Kishan and the authorities in Gorakhpur, noting that the project will enhance maternal health, encourage institutional deliveries, increase diagnostic rates, and improve overall community health.

Puneet Bali, Executive Director of Smile Foundation, highlighted the project's alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 3, promoting good health and well-being. He thanked the Government of UP, Gorakhpur authorities, and MSD for their support in delivering essential healthcare services at the grassroots level.

MSD Pharmaceuticals currently supports Smile Foundation in operating nine Smile on Wheels projects across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Six more projects are being introduced in Gorakhpur and Bahraich districts in Uttar Pradesh, Barpeta and Darrang in Assam, and Raichur and Yadgir districts in Karnataka.
