Bavarian Inn Serves Savory ‘Purely Michigan Dinner’ Aug. 26

There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh Michigan blueberries in season! Diners who enjoy local products will have a chance to enjoy a handmade Blueberry Dessert Bar along with a four-course collection of Michigan homegrown, home-produced foods and beverages as the Bavarian Inn Restaurant presents its annual "Purely Michigan Dinner" Friday, Aug. 26 at 6 p.m.

The evening of Michigan favorites celebrates food and beverage pairings made possible with the cooperation of more than a dozen growers, brewers and other suppliers from across the Great Lakes State.

According to Bavarian Inn President Bill Zehnder, the Inn hosts this special dinner to specifically showcase the popularity, excellence and diversity of Michigan’s farms, orchards, wineries, and breweries. Rave reviews from past participants have increased its popularity not only for Michiganders, but also beyond the state’s borders. The menu for the event features products from southwest Michigan, the Traverse City area and a number of producers in both Frankenmuth and Metro Detroit.

"The Bavarian Inn," Zehnder noted, "uses more ‘Pure Michigan’ products than many other restaurants. The abundance of quality Michigan-produced meats, produce, wines and beers has provided Bavarian Inn chefs a well-rounded selection of ingredients and tastes for dishes and drinks that are bound to please everyone."

The dinner begins with beverages such as Lucky Stone Hard Cider and Tongue Tied Cherry Saison along with a selection of hors d’oeuvres that includes: Southwestern Polenta Cake, Roasted Cauliflower with Porcini Aioli and Summer Giardiniera Blend.

Next comes a Michigan Greens salad tossed with a Spicy Peach Honey Yogurt Dressing. Veal Saltimbocca with Truffle Potato Gnocchi, accompanied by Chateau Grand Traverse Semidry Riesling, is the featured entrée. A Michigan Blueberry Bar with Lemon Sorbet finishes the meal with panache.

Besides great food and drink, guests will hear from featured speaker Erwin Styma of Styma Potato Farms in Posen, Michigan and have an opportunity to learn more about shopping for and using locally produced products in their home kitchens. They will also be able to visit with Michigan vendors from the Frankenmuth Farmers Market, Rochester Mills Beer Co. in Rochester and the Saugatuck Brewing Company in Douglas.
