eRecording made simple

eRecording made simple

Riley County, KS – January 15, 2008 - Simplifile announced today that they will begin electronically recording (eRecording) land record documents such as deeds, mortgages, and reconveyances submitted by title companies, abstractors, banks, and attorneys, in the Riley County Register of Deed’s Office.

To introduce the public to eRecording, Riley County is hosting an eRecording kick-off meeting from 1:30 pm until 3:30 pm, Thursday, January 24, 2008 in the Riley County Office Building (located at 110 Courthouse Plaza, 2nd Floor Conference Room), in Manhattan Kansas. Simplifile representatives will be in attendance to demonstrate the system and to conduct a question and answer session.

eRecording is the process of submitting, receiving, and processing, via a secure Internet site, documents for recording that have traditionally been delivered to the county for recording by runner, express mail, or courier service. eRecording offers customers the ability to simplify and accelerate all aspects of the recording process, dramatically shortening the Gap and improving auditability.

“Riley County is pleased to partner with Simplifile to provide eRecording services to our clients,” said Register of Deeds, Charlotte Shawver. According to Mrs. Shawver, “We are continually evaluating ways to improve the quality of our services, and believe that eRecording enables us to more efficiently record documents, eliminate document filing errors, and actually increase document security—while at the same time, work with our private sector partners, like Simplifile, to improve turn-around times and increase efficiencies. eRecording customers will now have the ability to record and track the status of documents from the convenience of their offices, using a standard Web browser.”

More than a mere trend in land record document submission, eRecording is a government priority. Federal (ESIGN) and state legislation (UETA) have established the legal basis for secure electronic recording, and dozens of states and counties are already eRecording today.

"Simplifile is thrilled to have this business relationship with the Riley County Register of Deed’s Office. Mrs. Shawver and her staff are demonstrating leadership in the national effort to make the land record submission and recording process easier and more secure through the use of technology,” said Paul Clifford, President of Simplifile. Based on our experiences in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and a number of other states—including Kansas—companies doing business with the Riley County Register of Deed’s Office will enjoy significant productivity gains and enhanced filing and recording services by eRecording with Simplifile.”

Individuals and organizations that regularly file documents with the county are invited to attend the eRecording Seminar hosted by the Riley County Register of Deed’s Office and Simplifile on January 24, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the County Office Building in Manhattan. To RSVP for the meeting please contact Debbie Regester by phone (785) 537-6340 or email dregester@rileycountyks.gov.
