A virtual tour through the world of functional ingredients

IFT Food Expo in Chicago 2016: Glatt Ingenieurtechnik presented state-of-the-art fluidized bed and spouted bed technologies for customized food ingredients.

Weimar (Germany), July 2016: At the IFT Food Expo in Chicago 2016, Glatt showcased technologies for innovative particle design. Glatt is one of the world’s leading suppliers of integrated plant solutions based on fluidized bed and spouted bed technology. The engineering experts research and develop drying, agglomeration, granulation, encapsulation and coating processes for powders and liquids to protect ingredients or to provide them with specific functional properties.

Visitors to the technology expert’s booth were able to delve into a virtual world: Augmented Reality presentations gave a unique insight into the process chambers of large-scale facilities, where liquids are spray granulated, powders are agglomerated and sensitive substances are encapsulated. Agglomeration gives instant beverages such as cappuccino, cocoa and tea outstanding solubility. Probiotics only remain stable enough to reach the digestive tract with homogenous encapsulation. Spray granulation dries liquid food additives – such as stabilizers, flavors or sweeteners – into dust-free and easy to dose compact granules with precisely adjusted particle size. Alongside vivid animations of these technologies, various product samples were also made available.
