Goodbyememo is the service that allows individuals to compose messages to be sent after their passing. In this way, they can leave an indelible final memory even when they are no longer with us. But how does the system know when a user has departed and trigger the delivery of these messages?
There are two methods:
> Self Check: Users set a frequency (say, monthly) to receive an email asking if they are still alive. If they fail to respond within a predetermined time (let's say a week), the messages are dispatched.
> Friend's Check: Users receive a secret code to be entrusted to a trusted person. When the user passes away, this designated person enters the code on the website, certifying the transition to the beyond. Only then are the emails sent.
Now you have the possibility to test the system from the message creation to the actual death and yes, you can die as many times as you want, and it can be a good way to get familiar with the product and see how easy it is to use. We recommend writing a few test messages to friends or, if you want, to another personal email address. Then, choose one of the two systems to verify that you're dead and... die! Virtually, of course.
This means that if you choose the "Self-check" system, you'll have to stop responding to emails where we'll ask you if you're alive or, if you choose to delegate a third party to communicate your death (which can be you for a test), you'll have to enter the https://goodbyememo.com/report-passing page and certify your death.
Then, your messages will be sent.
When you log back into the site, we'll welcome you back and ask if you want to set your status as "alive".
