Folk-Americana Artist Andy Sydow Debuts Uplifting New Single on June 7th/New Album Produced by Anders Osborne

Andy Sydow's new album "Night Skin" features Anders Osborne. Pictured L-R: Anders Osborne, Andy Sydow, and Mike Dillon.
In a landmark moment, Sydow embarked on a collaboration with his biggest musical influence, Anders Osborne, resulting in a full-length album recorded at Dockside Studio in Maurice, LA. "Follow The Rain Down" (FTRD) will be the lead single from the album which will be released on June 7th.
Joined by a stellar lineup of musicians, including Casandra Faulconer on bass, Mike Dillon on drums/percussion, and engineered by Justin Tocket, Sydow and Osborne created a full album entitled, Night Skin.
"As we were listening back to FTRD, Anders said something along the lines of, 'You know what would be cool? If you just ran into the piano room really quick and did a fast, straight twinkly eighth-note thing during the intro in a high octave,'" recalls Sydow about creating the track. "I wasn't really sure what he was hearing, but I went in and gave it a go anyway. I did one take and Anders' voice appeared in my headphones laughing, as he's yelling, 'That's it! That's it!' It's funny to me now, every time I listen to that song, because it's so simple yet I can't imagine the song without the high twinkly piano."
This captivating track, featuring Sydow's distinctive voice alongside Osborne on backing vocals and guitar, encapsulates themes of surrendering to life's natural flow and embracing its unpredictable course.
"I constantly try to grab the wind and bend it to my will," says Sydow. "I try to do too much and spread myself too thin, but sometimes you have to let life take over and let the universe do its thing…in a way it's a word of advice to myself."
Sydow's first encounter with Osborne was as a teenager, watching the singer, guitarist and songwriter at a festival in Telluride. His performance wasn't merely good; it was a transformative 80 minutes that reshaped Sydow's perspective on artistry.
"Right after my senior year of high school, my dad took me to my first Telluride Blues & Brews Festival. On the second day, I was resting in our tent when I overheard this very distinct voice screaming, 'Charlie Parkahh! On the road to Charlie Parkah.' By the second chorus I realized he was singing, 'Charlie Parker,'" Sydow recalls. "I walked up to the stage to see what was happening and this guy was dancing all over the stage in some sort of a trance, playing slide guitar alongside a sousaphonist and a drummer. I watched the entire rest of the set, mesmerized. My only thought at the end was, "I want to do that!"
Over the course of the next 11 years, Sydow became a dedicated attendee at Osborne's shows, even adopting his guitar tuning and lyrical ethos in his own music endeavors. In 2014, a coveted one-hour guitar lesson with Osborne at the Boulder Theater and a subsequent opportunity to open for him at the Caribou Room in Nederland, CO, three years later only reinforced his admiration.
In 2021, the door opened for Sydow. "I had recorded a piano/vocal cover of Anders' song, 'Buddha and the Blues,' and his manager at the time, Phil, watched the video and sent it to him. He wrote a nice note back to me about passing the torch."
Seizing the opportunity, Sydow says, "I reached out to Phil again and asked if Anders might be interested in producing a track or two for me. Phil responded, 'You know Anders loves you, he's up for it. Let's set up a zoom.' So I sent him a bunch of songs on a playlist for him to pick from, and it was during our first zoom meeting that Anders told me he had booked three days at Dockside Studio, where he records many of his albums."
Expecting Osborne to sign off on just tracking a couple of songs, Sydow asked him what he thought they could get done at Dockside studio in three-days-time. "He told me, 'We can make a whole album in three days.' And so we did."
To bring the new project to fruition, Sydow recently launched a Kickstarter campaign on May 7th, 2024, aimed at securing funding for crucial aspects of album promotion and distribution, including PR/publicity, radio and online promotion, print and pressing vinyl, digital marketing and distribution, video creation, SEO and other essential elements (www.kickstarter.com/projects/andysydow/night-skin-andy-sydows-new-album).
"I've decided I'm putting this record out completely independently," says Sydow. "This album is very close to my heart and I'm trying to give 'Night Skin' the best release I possibly can, and using a platform like Kickstarter can help me accomplish this goal."
The Kickstarter campaign presents an exciting opportunity for his fans and supporters to participate in bringing this collaborative vision to life. Pledging to the campaign unlocks a range of rewards, including tangible items such as signed vinyl records, handwritten lyrics, and sheet music, as well as unique experiences like attending a baseball game with Sydow, hosting a house concert featuring his performance, and receiving private guitar or piano lessons, among others.
Sydow is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, whose lyrics paint a picture of poetic realism. He tours consistently both solo and with a backing band. On stage, he is known to croon an audience with acoustic guitar ballads, sit down at the keys to show off his surprisingly fluid piano chops, and even play a few numbers on his lap steel.
Sydow has opened for such acts as Chuck Prophet, Brett Dennen, Samantha Fish, Shane Smith & The Saints, Lucero, and more. He was also named a finalist in the 2024 "Telluride Troubadour Contest," 2024 "LEAF Songwriter Contest," 2023 & 2021 "Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition," and the 2023 "Falcon Ridge Folk Fest Songwriter Showcase." Two of his previous singles, "Keep On Driving" (2023) and "Alibi" (2021), received AAA radio play.
On June 8th, Sydow is scheduled to perform at the Grand Mesa Songwriter Festival in Cedaredge, CO, followed by his participation at Planet Bluegrass's "31st Annual 2024 Telluride Troubadour Contest" June 20th - 22nd.
Stay tuned for more updates as Sydow invites music enthusiasts to support his biggest album to date, which he plans to release in fall. For more information, visit his official website and follow him on social media for updates.
