Embracing the Airport as a Catalyst for Future Economic Competitiveness

15th Edition of Airport Cities Conference and Exhibition will showcase and discuss the essentials and opportunities relating to airport city and aerotropolis development

Qingdao, China, July 15 – In support of Qingdao Airport Group’s initiative for the New Qingdao Airport project, the 15th Edition of Airport Cities Conference and Exhibition (ACE) – taking place from 15 to 17 November at Shangri-La Hotel – will facilitate discussions on airport city and aerotropolis development requirements and opportunities including solutions showcase amongst the public and private sectors.

Qingdao Airport Group has signed the New Qingdao Airport project in April 2016 and this project is expected to involve a total investment of USD 6.9 billion. The new airport will be constructed as a category 4F standard and positioned as a gateway to Japan and South Korea as well as a regional hub airport. In its long term plan to year 2045, the airport is expected to have cover a land area of 30.7 sq km and constructs an additional two near runways while its terminal area will reach 700,000 SQM.

According to John Kasarda - the co-author of Aerotropolis: The Way We’ll Live Next and an adviser to many airport-centered development projects around the world, airports will shape business location and urban development in the 21st century. As China is now looking to replicate the success of the ZAEZ in dozens of other cities where airport areas are being built up to be commercial as well as logistical hubs, Dr Kasarda added that speedy connectivity to suppliers, customers and enterprise partners will increases the efficiency of the businesses and it will also increase the efficiency of the places where the businesses are located. He also stated that that’s the proposition of the aerotropolis.
