In "Planetary Lines" Rainer Höing gives an insight into a newly discovered global phenomenon. It goes beyond the Gaia theory and provides evidence for a living consciousness of the earth's energies.

Your book has been published in the Environment and Earth Sciences section. What exactly is it about?

The book offers an insight into the network of planetary lines that span the globe. They have nothing to do with astrology, because they are neither calculated nor temporary. They connect places permanently, reflecting the solar system and deciphering a phenomenon known as ‚leylines'. A combination of antenna physics and craftsmanship allows a differentiated description as a longitudinal or scalar wave. The agreement with British leyline research is taken up, supplemented by discoveries at the famous Michael Mary Line (Miller/Broadhurst) in Glastonbury/UK and its course through northern Germany. A total of 46 planetary lines or leylines support the results presented, with 1500 anchor points in Europe and worldwide.

When we think of earth science and ecology, we think of climate change and global warming. In your book you emphasise a living awareness of nature and the emergence of the world from the mind. What observations support this?

The evidence for a perceptive, purposeful awareness of the planetary lines is astonishing, because the lines are a kind of hybrid, i.e. they are both energy and spirit. They connect places of archetypal significance. It is the meaning that attracts them. Depending on the character of the celestial body or energy line, there are specific affinities to selected places. If the power of meaning is suddenly extinguished there - as in a church in the case of a liturgical desecration - the connection is extinguished as quickly as it was established. All over the world, sacred sites, institutes of cutting-edge research, volcanoes and special points in the landscape or geology are constantly being integrated into this active spiritual network.

What do you see as the significance of these findings?

The results support the Gaia theory, but go beyond it. This is because the idea of a higher living consciousness of the Earth receives an unexpected reinforcement. James Lovelock chose the name of the Earth Goddess as the name of his approach, but more in the sense of an allegory. However, research into the phenomenon of planetary lines brings the question of a higher, creative and active spirit of the planet to the fore in an unexpected way. This becomes a challenge for philosophy, theology, ethics and the sciences of the environment and ecology.

The relationship between the environment and philosophy is obvious. But what is the connection with theology?

The Greek root of the word theology does not refer to a single god, but to the gods or to metaphysics. In this sense, the earth goddess Gaia and all conscious activity beyond the physical belong to theology anyway. The Catholic and Orthodox traditions of Christianity are also characterised by a particularly intimate, intense relationship with the planetary lines. Here it is customary to dedicate churches to a patron saint (or saint / one speaks of a patrocinium). The character or personality of the patron saint in turn attracts a particular type of lineage. The harmonising meanings of the patron saint and the planet mean that the energy field of the patron saint connects with the Church. This is an essential reason for the charisma, dignity and power of these places.
