Enhancing Uzbekistan's Horticulture Sector: Our Insightful Study Tour to Poland

Enhancing Uzbekistan's Horticulture Sector: Our Insightful

We recently organized a study tour for Uzbek producers to Poland as part of the Horticultural Value Chain Development project, which is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency and implemented through the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Focused on intensive apple production, participants gained insights from Polish orchards and processing plants.
The tour sparked potential business relations and technology transfer opportunities between Uzbek and Polish horticultural tech companies. One participant, Sherzod Niyazinbetov, commented on the value of the tour for expanding his production ideas and added: "I very much enjoyed the trip, it was both informative and touristic! Visiting so huge companies as Dohler gave me a lot of new thoughts of widening my production."

The project "Horticultural Value Chain Promotion Project, Uzbekistan" started its activities in the Republic of Uzbekistan in August 2023. The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The International Strategic Centre for Agri-Food Development (ISCAD) under the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan is the executive body responsible for the management of the Project. The overall objective of the project is to develop value chains in the horticultural sector of the country by supporting the development and dissemination of good agricultural practices, creating linkages between input and equipment suppliers and farmers, building capacity of agribusinesses to improve quality, hygiene and sanitation, and providing access to long-term financing.

The project has two main components:

Financial component
Horticultural component

The financial component develops the financial sector of the Republic of Uzbekistan by providing a Two-step loan (TSL) to participating financial institutions, which will subsequently provide loans to farmers and agro-enterprises.
