Top marks for Poinciana real estate and new college campus

05-26-2016 09:01 AM CET | Industry, Real Estate & Construction

Press release from: Feltrim Group

Many real estate investors who buy in Florida are not only looking for a secure investment and an enviable lifestyle, but for top-quality schooling for their children.

Property owners at popular Tuscany Preserve gated project at Lake Marion, at Poinciana, Central Florida, can have the best of both worlds – a prime property with resort-style facilities and an excellent college education.

That’s because the Valencia College, which was previously named the top community college in the United States by the Aspen Institute, is coming to the area.

The public state college already has an Osceola Campus at Kissimmee, Central Florida, and now it has just broken ground on a new Poinciana Campus.

With the early phases of construction already underway, Valencia College held a ceremonial groundbreaking for a new $27million campus in Poinciana on Thursday, 19 May.

Poinciana Campus will open up opportunities for many who may not be able to attend classes at the college’s Osceola Campus, which takes 45-minutes by car and two and a half hours by bus.

When it opens in the fall of 2017, the Poinciana campus will serve 2,500 degrees students, plus another 1,000 students seeking job training.

Kathleen Plinske, President of Valencia’s Poinciana, Osceola and Lake Nona campuses, says, “Imagine how different the future will be when students from Poinciana only have to spend 15-minutes on the bus, instead of five hours.

“Imagine how many more of our students will be able to pursue a college education when a campus is in their backyard.”

Currently, students from Poinciana’s two high schools, Liberty High School and Poinciana High School, are less likely to attend college than their peers, which is why Valencia leaders have been eyeing a possible Poinciana Campus since 2003.

The new campus lies on 19 acres of land donated by Osceola County at the intersection of Pleasant Hill and Reaves roads.

Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington, who represents Poinciana on the county commission, realized many Poinciana students didn’t have cars and urged for the donation of land to Valencia College for a new campus.

The new Poinciana Campus will change lives and prospects for Osceola County residents and is an “amazing feat,” he says.

With the land donated, Rep. Mike La Rosa (R-Osceola) and Sen. Darren Soto (D-Osceola) spent three years cajoling legislators in Tallahassee to back the project. Mr Soto said at the groundbreaking, “Behind us, I see a field of dreams. I see the opportunity for new entrepreneurs for Poinciana, for new job training for students, to take on the challenges of a new generation.”

Once complete, the campus will house 11 classrooms, two computer labs, a science lab and a culinary teaching kitchen, plus an indoor/outdoor cafe area, native landscaping including Poinciana trees. A two-story ‘treehouse’ designed campus library will feature multiple settings for studying, group collaboration and tutoring.

Garrett Kenny, Chief Executive Officer of Feltrim Group, the developer behind Tuscany Preserve says, “We have built and sold more than 100 units in the last 15 months at Tuscany Preserve and we have many Chinese investors and education opportunities is certainly high on their list of priorities.

“Tuscany Preserve is a gated community of 500 villas, single-family houses and townhomes in a beautiful conservation area and natural forest setting

“The community features a clubhouse with a gym, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a swimming pool with children’s play area and is popular with lifestyle property buyers, buy-to-let investors and renters.

“Now the $150million Poinciana Parkway highway has been opened, which links Haines City and Kissimmee to the main I-4 corridor, and the SunRail extension is progressing, travel will be made quicker and easier.”

DLR Group is the architectural firm behind the new college campus and Clancy & Theys is the construction manager.

Feltrim Group began almost 20 years ago with CEO Garrett Kenny's vision of operating a world class, internationally connected real estate firm.
