Orlando top for tourism and population growth

04-06-2016 01:13 PM CET | Industry, Real Estate & Construction

Press release from: Feltrim Group

Orlando is not only the number one US destination for visitors, but it is also is top for population growth in the nation’s largest regions, new figures show.

According to the latest US Census Bureau figures, the region added more than 60,400 net new residents in the year to July 2015, to reach a total population of 2,387,138, up 2.6% year-over-year.

The growth rate led the country’s 30 largest regions and the total in the last 12 months included 18,679 international migrants, which was more than half the 29,683 domestic migrants.

Orlando has risen two places to become the 24th most populous region and was one only three metro areas nationwide to feature in both the top 20 largest numeric gains and the 20 fastest growing (percentage gain) between 2014 and 2015.

In the five years to July 2015, the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metro Area attracted a total of 86,472 international migrants.

The news comes after the Forbes news website reported that Orlando’s population is projected to rise 2.03% in 2016.

Orlando, which attracted a record 62million visitors in 2014, ahead of New York City, is expected to reach a new high when the 2015 figure is officially announced.

Garrett Kenny, Chief Executive Officer of top Central Florida real estate developer and agent, Feltrim Group, says, “The growing demand that we are receiving from property investors, led by inquiries from China, Brazil and the UK, shows that the region is not only a top target for residents and tourist, but international real estate buyers, too.

“Our newest luxury lakeside development, Balmoral at Waters Edge, has a host of resort-style attractions, including pristine parks and gardens, a swimming pool with luxury clubhouse, mini waterpark, lakeside beach, gym and spa, gourmet kitchen, restaurant and more.

“Add the attractions of Disney, Universal and other world-class theme parks, sports facilities and exclusive malls and stores, plus great schools and healthcare, plus our famous warm weather, then the region will continue to grow its population for many years to come.”

The region’s strong job growth, particularly in the technology and health care sectors, is another major reason that people are moving to Central Florida. In the year to January 2016, Orlando created 53,900 new private-sector jobs, more than any other metro.

The impressive job creation is one of the reasons why Orlando Economic Development Commission, which coordinates public incentives to attract new companies to the region, launched a branding campaign in 2015, "Orlando: You don't know the half of it."

Mr Kenny concludes “People have always wanted to move here from the North, but now the growth in well-paying jobs in media, digital, medical aerospace and of course the tourism sector with its supporting industries, is attracting even more people to move to Central Florida and is helping inderpin real estate demand.”

Feltrim Group began almost 20 years ago with CEO Garrett Kenny's vision of operating a world class, internationally connected real estate firm.
