First General Conference of the BRICS Network University to be Held at Ural Federal University

On the 6-9 April 2016, Ural Federal University (Ekaterinburg, Russia) will hold the first general conference of the BRICS Network University, which will be attended by representatives of 60 universities from Russia, India, China, Brazil and South Africa (12 universities representing each country). At a press conference which took place on 15 March, Victor Koksharov (Rector of Ural Federal University) told the media about the upcoming event.

“In the course of the first general conference the delegates will sign all the necessary documents relating to establishment of joint graduate and postgraduate programs in six top-priority areas that are of interest to the participating countries”, said Victor Koksharov. He also added that on 10-15 March in India the representatives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development of India and a delegation of the Sverdlovsk region had discussed participation of the Indian universities in the conference, as well as the priority areas of cooperation. “Indian partners are particularly interested in topics regarding water resources, environment, information technologies and power industry”, said Mr. Koksharov.

The topics that are going to be discussed at the conference include the main principles of the courses elaboration, titles and degrees to be awarded, number of credits required for course completion, etc. Besides, the delegates will discuss procedural, financial issues and other related topics (e.g. adoption of the corporate style).

BRICS Network University is a joint educational project aimed at creation of a unified educational environment, development of academic mobility and training highly qualified professionals in the areas of activity that are of high priority to the member states. The BRICS Network University will give students the possibility to participate in exchange programs free of charge. The Memorandum of Understanding for Establishment of the BRICS Network University was signed on November 18, 2015 in Moscow by the Ministers of Education of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

The Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin is one of the leading educational institutions in the Ural region. Ural Federal University acts as a research and innovation center of the Ural region, has close cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences. Training of students is carried out in three main directions and 67 academic majors. The links between the university and intermediate and elementary educational institutions are developed. The University performs consistent work on establishing strategic partnership with employers for the development of the regional economy: employers are involved in the educational environment as direct participants, large-scale target preparation of students and corporate education are carried out on the basis of the client-centered approach, joint business projects in economic and social activity are realized.
