Barclays Capital, the investment banking division of Barclays Bank Plc, has announced plans for a permanent capability in Qatar situated at the Qatar Financial Centre. His Excellency Yousef Hussain Kamal, the Minister of Finance of the State of Qatar unveiled a Barclays Capital logo at the World Islamic Infrastructure Finance Conference being held in the capital, symbolising the firm’s new commitment to the area.

Barclays Capital provides risk management and financing solutions to a number of clients in Qatar and the GCC. The firm is a market leader in this area of investment banking in Qatar, where it has led a number of landmark transactions for Qatari clients. Barclays Capital is ranked by Bloomberg as the top book runner for Qatari syndicated loans executed since January 2006. This year alone Barclays Capital has been involved in a number of benchmark transactions including:
• US$ 2.5 billion syndicated term loan for QTEL
• US$ 1.85 billion syndicated loan for Qatar National Bank
• US$ 2.25 billion syndicated project financing for Qatar Aluminium
• US$ 2.39 billion syndicated project financing for Qatar Gas Transportation Company (Nakilat)
