Concealed door hinges represent the epitome of technical achievement when it comes to door hinges for commercial buildings and stylish residential buildings. They fulfil high demands on design and material by vanishing completely from sight when the door is closed.

Until recently, these types of hinges could only be used together with metal doors. The innovations made by Dr. Hahn's hinge specialists to frame materials have been groundbreaking though. In 2002, Dr. Hahn received the prestigious red dot award for product design with its VL-Hinge ST, a concealed hinge for steel doors and in 2005 the Innovation Award for Architecture and Construction for its concealed hinge, which allows doors to open up to 180°.

With the increased demand on stylish design for the residential segment, it became necessary to develop concealed hinges for PVC doors as well. As a driving force behind innovations in this sector, Dr. Hahn took the next logical step by focussing on the development of a concealed hinge for PVC door systems that are not flush-mounted.

The Hahn VL-Hinge KT
The Hahn VL-Hinge KT, which is constructed of extruded al-uminium, is installed directly on the door and the doorframe by means of tapping screws with countersunk heads. The hinge disappears thanks to a notch milled out in the frame to accommodate the entire hinge when the door is closed. No cutout is necessary on the door.

When installing the Hahn VL-Hinge KT, it is impossible to avoid cutting the door seal. Thus, a middle seal was integrated in the hinge to eliminate the resulting thermal bridge and loss in energy efficiency.

As is standard practice with all Hahn hinges, design is combined with impressive functionality and maximum convenience. The Hahn VL-Hinge KT is a so-called "3D door hinge", which can be adjusted in six directions. That includes vertical adjustments of ± 5 mm, horizontal adjustments of ± 3 mm and an adjustment of the door's sealing pressure of + 1.5 mm and - 0.5 mm.

Depending on the door frame profiles, the Hahn VL-Hinge KT is able to support doors weighing up to 120 kg. This testing confirmed that the hinges open to an angle of max. 100° and ensure a clear passage of 100 %.
