WELTEC Biomethane Plant in France Launches Feed-in

Leading Edge with Processing Technology

On 5 August, the „Longchamps“ biomethane plant in the Franche-Comté region in eastern France went live. Thus, 70 standard m3/h are now continually supplied to the natural gas grid of the French gas distributor GrDF (Gaz réseau Distribution France). Plant operator David Peterschmitt uses about 6,000 t of agricultural leftovers a year for the production of biogas from anaerobic digestion.

To ensure effective biogas processing, German plant manufacturer WELTEC BIOPOWER decided to deploy flexible, compact membrane technology. In the three-stage separation procedure, methane is separated from carbon dioxide (CO2), water vapour and other components with the help of special polymer membranes. The WELTEC membrane procedure is highly efficient and delivers a methane yield of about 99 percent.

The upstream compression is another advantage of the procedure. In this way, the separated methane already has the needed pressure for feed-in to the natural gas grid without being compressed again. This saves costs by eliminating the need for an additional compressor and enables economic use of WELTEC biogas processing even for smaller plants. This processing method also saves money in other areas: The molecules are separated at ambient temperature and without the addition of chemicals. Moreover, the membrane technology stands out with its compact setup in the container, reducing the installation overhead.

To optimise the plant synchronisation, WELTEC integrated the custom-developed LoMOS SPS control. One of the special features of this system is an SQL database-based task management: The user merely needs to enter his individual tasks for the biogas plant in the user-friendly calendar, after which the LoMOS control automatically executes the entries.

In view of the user-friendly operation and high-quality components, the builder and operator David Peterschmitt is very optimistic: „I am convinced that the technologies employed by WELTEC BIOPOWER will ensure optimum efficiency as well as permanently stable, economic operation of my biomethane plant.“

In 2015, WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH, one of the first manufacturers of biogas plants, celebrated its 14th anniversary. WELTEC is one of the pioneers of the constructors of biogas plants. Based on the modern approach of experienced engineers, the company from Vechta, Germany with its expertise of a staff of close to 80, offers complete biogas plants from one source and has developed to a leading constructor of biogas plants in the world.

As the hydrogen sulphide and ammonia compounds contained in biogas corrode unprotected parts, WELTEC builds the digesters from stainless steel. This ensures a long useful life of the plant. The manufacturing depth also guarantees a consistently high standard regardless of the location and ensures an export rate that is far above the industry average.

The plants have a modular structure. WELTEC uses only proven system components and develops most of the technologies along the entire value chain internally: digester technology, mixing technology, control technology, hygienisation systems, and digestate processing solutions originate from the company.

By means of its comprehensive services, WELTEC ensures the technical and economic stability of the biogas plants. The CHP service guarantees stable output, the biological supervision ensures continuous monitoring of the relevant parameters, and systematic repowering makes sure that the biogas plant is always up to date. Operators can choose from a range of service packages of different types and scope.

One of the main strengths of WELTEC is the ability to deliver individual and flexible solutions worldwide – from compact plants to large computer-controlled plants in the megawatt range, waste recycling plants, and biogas parks with gas processing technology.

WELTEC BIOPOWER Accomplishes Market Entry in Belgium
Biogas Plant to Generate Power and Heat for Textile Industry The Belgian investor and project developer NPG Energy has requested WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH from Vechta, Germany, to set up a biogas plant. The investor will also serve as the operator of the 2.4-MW plant, which is to go live in spring 2014. This is the first order that the German manufacturer WELTEC has received from the Kingdom of Belgium. The biogas plant
WELTEC BIOPOWER Builds Plant in France
In early 2012, WELTEC BIOPOWER started building a 526-kW biogas plant in Saint-Nicolas-du-Tertre, Brittany, about 60 miles northwest of Nantes. The plant is equipped with a fermenter of 3,052 cubic metres and separator, solid matter dosing feeder, two storage tanks, digestate storage unit, pump station, control, and drying. The plant is to be commissioned in October 2012. According to operator, the fermenters are fed with pig manure, waste from the food
WELTEC Opened Sales Office in Magdeburg
In September, WELTEC BIOPOWER opened a sales office in Magdeburg. The new office in the „House of Agriculture“ in the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt enables more customer proximity for improved local customer care. Like the headquarters in Vechta, the Magdeburg office also offers the entire bandwidth of customer care, from initial yield estimates, offers, and feasibility calculations to support for the grid access, gas sales, and financing. Moreover, Magdeburg is
WELTEC: Barsikow Up and Running
Biomethane processing has started at the biomethane refinery in Barsikow, Brandenburg: Since- mid October, the power generated by the micro gas turbines has been fed into the public power grid. The first biomethane is expected to flow into the public natural gas grid from mid-December on. Every year, the plant will produce about 4.3 million standard cubic metres of biomethane. This means about 1,000 standard cubic metres of biological raw
WELTEC BIOPOWER Builds Biogas Plant in Latvia
WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH is establishing its second biogas plant in Latvia in Limbaži, a city located about 50 miles north of Riga. The EU-subsidised 500 kW plant with its fermenter of 3,500 cubic metres will feed in power starting from July 2011. The final storage tank has a capacity of about 6,000 cubic metres. WELTEC Biogas Plant Certified by DLG
WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH, from Vechta, Germany, has received the ”DLG FokusTest” certification from the German Agricultural Association (DLG). A key objective of the test was to check how effectively the biogas plant degrades organic dry substances and thus total carbon for producing biogas. The calculated biogas yield was compared with the maximum possible biogas yield. The organic dry substance degradation rate amounted to 83.9 percent, and the specific gas yield to
