Delhi Govt Opts Digital Route; Invites Influencers to Raise Awareness About Preserving Public Properties

June 15, Delhi: With an objective to raise awareness in people about using and protecting public properties the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi, on Saturday has organized a one-of-its kind, Influencer's Meet, at Sri Aurobindo Marg here.

Understanding the potential of the new-age media, the PWD has connected with various social media influencers across Delhi. The premier agency for infrastructural development of the state capital has invited the influencers and their followers to witness the picturesque streetscaped areas at Sri Aurobindo Marg at 5:00 P.M. and understand the need to preserve the same.

"Different stretches of Delhi have been specifically designed keeping in mind the need for adequate spaces required for pedestrians, avid cyclists, or fitness enthusiasts. Aiming to make people aware of use of these boulevards and openings we thought of doing something out of the box and invited a selected a few influencers to bring the idea to people through their social media presence," said a senior PWD official.

It can be mentioned that under the state government's ambitious project of road beautification, the PWD has aimed more than 1500 kms development across Delhi. While enhanced mobility and sustainability remains the key focus the department is planning to increase the greenbelt area for beautification and to reduce pollution. While different stretches are equipped with unique elements, some of the common features include open sitting areas, cycling tracks, designer LED lights public utility centres and fountains with sandstone artworks.

The initiative which is executed under the campaign ROSE (Responsible Ownership of public Spaces) is a joint collaboration of the PWD and Lion Services Ltd. While the former is involved in development, planning, and designing of the stretches, the latter is responsible for upkeep and maintenance.

As per the latest development, the initiative has received a positive response from influencers with queries being made about the details of the programme. Observing the enthusiasm from different users, the PWD has decided to recognize the participants with an official certificate for their contribution in spreading awareness within people.
"I am pretty excited to be a part of the campaign. It's a great example of using social media in a positive manner. I have invited my followers to join me in this initiative. My team and I have also planned to do some performances of our own that can help the cause. I am hopeful that our efforts can bring a change in people of which we can be proud of," said Deepanshi Agarwaal, a lifestyle blogger.
