Two New CME Modules Added to the European Obesity Initiative on epgonline.org

04-01-2015 07:13 PM CET | Health & Medicine

Press release from: EPG Health Media

Today, two new modules have been added to the EACCME-accredited European Obesity Initiative Continuing Medical Education (CME) series on epgonline.org, the website for healthcare professionals. The modules are free to access and worth a combined total of 3 European CME credits (ECMECs).

Globally, there are more than 1.9 billion overweight adults, of whom at least 600 million are clinically obese.1 Obesity is a complex condition associated with increased risk of numerous diseases, including type 2 diabetes, hypertension, stroke, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis and cancers. It also has serious social and psychological consequences, such as low self-esteem and clinical depression, which can affect people of all ages. It is therefore essential that healthcare professionals are provided with the latest information about obesity so that they can support their patients in instigating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The new CME modules follow on from the first in the series, ‘Understanding Obesity’, which examined participants about obesity as a serious medical illness, its complications, and how to develop an effective weight-management strategy. Module 2 ‘Considerations for Individualising Pharmacotherapy’ focuses on the complexities of obesity, the appropriate use of pharmacotherapy for weight management, and how to individualise patient care. Module 3 ‘Rationale for Lifelong Behaviour Change’ explores the factors affecting weight loss maintenance, the importance of implementing lifelong behaviour changes to prevent weight regain, and the components of a successful long-term weight management strategy. All three modules are available with accreditation statements from EACCME at http://www.epgonline.org/obesity-cme/

“We are pleased to host this series of obesity CME activities, designed by apothecom – one of our medical communications partners – and funded through an educational grant from Novo Nordisk. It adds valuable support for our members to effectively manage their patients who are overweight or obese,” said Dr Toby Galbraith, Director of Content Strategy for EPG Health Media.
