Buddha’s wisdom meets urban life

Liverpool, October 2007: While the City is celebrating its 800th birthday, Liverpool’s buddhists are inviting everyone to a series of events that showcase the heritage of their 2500 years old tradition and explore how its wisdom blends with the modern, urban life of the City.

Under the headline “Buddhist Autumn in Liverpool – Buddhism in the 21st Century”, the Diamond Way Buddhist Centre is organising a series of events that present buddhist views and practices in this “World in One City”. In six talks, taking place between 16 October and 20 November 2007, three highly experienced international lay teachers will cover a broad range of topics, spanning from Tibetan buddhist art to the scientific investigation of buddhist meditation practices.

Dr Peter Malinowski, Director of the Diamond Way Buddhist Centre and one of the speakers, explains: “We are very excited that with this event we are able to contribute to celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Liverpool. Isn’t it amazing that traditional buddhist art finds a home in our living rooms and benefits the life of urban people even today? Buddhism is actually very modern, and we want to share some of the fascinating developments that result from the meeting between buddhism and Western science and psychology.”

From 16 October until 20 November, every Tuesday evening from 7.30pm a different topic will be in the focus. The talks take place in the Quaker Meeting House, 22 School Lane, Liverpool, L1 3BT. Costs are £6 (£4 concessions) per talk.
