Top Ten UK Estate Agents Groups by Turnover 2021

Company Insight has analysed the financial and operational performance of the leading estate agency groups in the UK, including groups, independents and online companies. Connells Group, after its acquisition of Countrywide, and earlier acquisitions, is the largest estate agency group in the UK, with turnover of £999.5m.

In March 2021, the acquisition of Countrywide by Connells was completed after three troubled years for the board. This move brings stability to Countrywide, freeing it from external debt and uncertainty. Connells continues operating Countrywide as a standalone business, but with new investments in technology and personnel to improve its service.

Leaders Roman Group, owned by private equity firm Platinum Equity, is the second largest estate agency group in the UK, with a turnover of £165.0m. In January 2022, Bowmark Capital agreed to sell Leaders Romans Group (LRG), one of the largest property services groups in the UK, to Platinum Equity. LRG was formed in 2016 from the merger of two Bowmark portfolio companies, Leaders Lettings and Romans Group and it has carried out 132 bolt-on acquisitions of branches and lettings portfolios.

LSL's estate agency division had a turnover in 2021 of £154.6m, up from £128.7m in 2020. The estate agency division's turnover was down in 2022, at £146.8m. In January 2023, LSL announced the disposal of its London estate agency business, Marsh & Parsons, to Dexters (4th in the list) for a consideration of £29m.

The Top Ten UK Estate Agents Groups by Turnover 2021 data comes from Company Insight's UK Estate Agents Company Insight data product, which includes turnover for 45+ largest estate agents; as well as a range of other metrics, including operating profit and margin, turnover per employee, turnover per office, operating profit per employee, number of employees, number of offices, growth, and turnover by segment as well as many more metrics (property sales turnover, lettings turnover, financial products turnover, conveyancing turnover and other turnover).
