The Burden Comic Series

The Burden Comic Series

Salem Beiruti, the talented artist responsible for designing the look of Namor in the blockbuster Marvel film "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever", will create cover art for "The Burden", a new comic series by actor and writer Ian Verdun (Freeform's "Siren", "True Love").

"I'm beyond excited to have Salem Beiruti on board for this project, his artistry is just unparalleled," said Verdun. "His work on Namor along with Ruth E. Carter speaks for itself."

"The Burden" is a gritty comic book series that brings together a diverse cast of characters, exploring heavy themes of grief, addiction, and the very legacy of power.

The comic has been Verdun's passion project for the last 25 years; inspired by his love for mythology, urban fantasy, and a strong desire to create fresh, iconic characters with diverse perspectives.

"I don't want to feel pandered to as a reader," said Verdun, "I want to feel present, I want to be surprised, I want to be invited along on the journey. You can feel represented and still not feel included. I want as many people to feel included as possible."

Verdun's goal of diversifying comics also extends behind the page.

"It's another reason I'm excited to work with Salem. To be able to collaborate with another artist of color in this medium is incredible! The push for diversity isn't just about the stories we tell, it's also who gets to tell them. Who gets the opportunity to showcase their talents. You really have to be the change you want to see and tell the stories you want to hear. We can be our own heroes. It's important to remember that."
