The data centre First Colo is once again one of the 50

Hamburg, 10 November 2014 – The growth continues unimpeded: after receiving the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Award last year, First Colo GmbH was an award-winner again in 2014. The innovative data centre reached 36th place this year. The awards ceremony hosted by the auditing and consulting firm Deloitte was held as part of a gala dinner in Hamburg's Emporio Tower. First Colo's recognition with a second award in as many years is a testament to the company's growth dynamics and rewarding, consistent talent for innovation.

This year's Technology Fast 50 competition was held for the 12th time in Germany, this time under the motto 'Powerful Connections'. The organiser Deloitte paid tribute to the corporate performance of the fastest-growing technology companies in Germany. Distinctions were awarded to companies which registered outstanding rates of growth with their own developments. This is measured based on the average turnover growth rate over the last five financial years in per cent – in this case from 2009 to 2013. Companies from the fields of communications, network operation, internet, computers and accessories, life sciences, new technologies (e.g. nanotechnology, solar technology and fuel cells) and software were invited to participate.

The management considers the readiness of the data centre to invest in IT security technologies to be a growth driver for First Colo. Ever since First Colo tripled server space and doubled office space with its extension in Frankfurt, there has been, for example, automatic DDoS protection for every server against malicious denial-of-service attacks by cyber-criminals.
The acquisition costs of this security technology from a global market leader were in the six-digit range. This complex technology complements the existing security technology at First Colo, where the first efficient counters to DDoS attacks were developed over 10 years ago. The Security Operations Centre (SOC) team can therefore fall back on years of expertise and experience. Highly sophisticated DDoS attack scenarios can only be discovered and monitored by people and overcome through experience. Therefore, the SOC monitors the network infrastructure around the clock and reacts to potential risks and weaknesses immediately.

'It is an enormous honour for us to receive this award for the second time in a row and to be one of the technology companies with the fastest growth', says Jerome Evans, Managing Director of the data centre in Frankfurt. 'This award also shows us that our whole range of services need not fear comparison with our competitors on the market. The award underlines our good position on the German market, which is characterised by medium-sized companies. In line with our founding principles, we will continue to work to meet our customers' requirements through our service and make important investments in order to provide our customers with a cutting-edge data centre.'
