Al Khobar Forum Gathers Global Corrosion Experts To Address Related Issues
Corrosion is one of the most prevalent factors contributing to breakdowns in operations across numerous industries like oil, gas, manufacturing and construction. Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI), appearing in pipelines underneath the insulation is responsible for 40-60% of the maintenance and repairs costs. Mere inspection of these pipelines can be expensive if there arises a need for the insulation to be removed. In an effort to address CUI and related issues, Corrosion Under Insulation Forum, organized by Fleming Gulf Conferences, kicked off today, 7th September 2014 at the Sofitel Al Khobar the Corniche - Saudi Arabia with global corrosion experts attending the forum. Supported by The Institute of Materials Finishing - IMF, the two day forum saw attendees from organizations like Saudi Aramco, SABIC, Pak - Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), American Society of Non - Destructive testing (Saudi Arabia Section) and Qatar Petroleum among others.Day one of the forum started with the keynote presentation by Ali Morshed, Corrosion Engineering Specialist - Saudi Aramco. With more than 11 years of experience working in the UK Offshore Sector and various international projects in Africa and Asia, Morshed's inputs were very valuable, shedding light on the importance of CUI education. Dik Betzig, Technical Director - Protective & Marine Coatings (PPG) followed and presented on selection of CUI coatings and critical attributes of CUI elevated temperature coatings. PPG, Silver Sponsor at the event, through its coatings provides and protects a wide range of assets for industries like civil infrastructure, marine, petrochemical, mining, power and offshore. A post lunch panel discussion on using the best measures to minimize CUI saw participation by Abdusalam Al Amri, Senior Coatings Inspector; Operations Engineering; Offshore Fields - Qatar Petroleum, Kuttukkal Mohamed Jaffarullah, Senior Inspection & Corrosion Engineer - Saudi Aramco, Qurban Ali Lashari, Corrosion Control Specialist - Pak - Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), Ali Morshed and Dik Betzig. A virtual presentation on understanding CUI phenomena in operating equipments by Monica Chauviere, President - MiCorr Inc was well received by the delegates. Chauviere has been a non-metallic specialist - fixed equipment for over 20 years with expertise in refractory, thermal insulation, coatings and passive fireproofing. Having extensive experience with ExxonMobil for over 31 years she has also been a member of NACE since 1991 winning the NACE Technical Achievement Award.
Tomorrow, day two of the forum will see two workshops on CUI management in NGL fractionation plants led by Kuttukkal Mohamed Jaffarullah, Senior Inspection & Corrosion Engineer - Saudi Aramco and CUI detection & mitigation techniques for crude oil / condensate storage tanks & glass flask coating system of BHP Zamzama gas field at Bubak Pakistan by Qurban Ali Lashari. The forum sponsored by KAEFER, Hajjan Trading and Industrial Services Co Ltd (HATCON), PPG Protective & Marine Coatings and Rockwool is an excellent opportunity for delegates to share insights with their peers and also learn from their experiences aiding in making the current practices in play more effective.
Fleming Gulf is young, dynamic and has fast become one of the leading providers of business intelligence through industry specific conferences, webinars and skills enhancement training courses.
