OPUS ENERGY LAUNCHES REAL-TIME, ONLINE ENERGY PURCHASE SYSTEM

Another industry first for Opus as online energy purchasing product is rolled out to the non-half hourly market

Opus Energy – a leading independent electricity supplier to businesses – today launched Opus Evolution, a real-time online energy purchasing system that gives customers direct access to wholesale electricity markets.

The system, which, for the first time, offers smaller (non-half hourly) customers the chance to take advantage of pricing deals normally only offered to larger (half hourly) customers, is the first of its type in the UK.

Steve James, Commercial Manager at Opus Energy said: “Opus Evolution is about offering customers access to flexible and transparent wholesale pricing at the click of a button. In doing so, we’re meeting a growing demand from our customers for smarter, more cost-effective ways to manage their electricity.”

Opus has already signed up Thorntons Plc on the new system. Caroline Simpson a Senior Energy Buyer at Thorntons said: “The Opus Evolution tool gives us the flexibility to purchase direct from the wholesale market as and when we feel it’s the right time to buy, which in turn has reduced our electricity prices. The management information we have access to online gives us an extremely useful and detailed view of our energy pricing and consumption.”

Through a secure logon, customers can dictate how much electricity they purchase and when. Customers are also able to manage their different premises through the secure website, seeing market data and portfolio reports . With a pre-negotiated service fee locked at the start of the contract, customers are able to add or remove premises at any time during the period of the contract, knowing that the only variable element of the price will be the commodity cost as reflected directly from the market.
