In normal life, almost all textiles are washed. The textiles are washed at a certain temperature in a washing liquid. The dye will come off the cloth owing to the action of the washing liquid, and the original color of the textile will eventually change, a process known as discoloration. Simultaneously, the dye in the washing liquid contaminates and changes the color of other clothes, a process known as staining.
Whether or not the color fastness to washing is excellent or bad, it will effect the staining of other garments worn on the body, or it will stain other clothes when washed with other clothes.

Determination of color fastness to washing(depend on ISO 105 c06)

Purpose
Discover how textiles fade and stain other washes in the washing process.

Preparation
ECE, IEC, WOB (as required by customers), sodium perborate, sodium carbonate 1g/l, monofilament lining, multifiber lining (DW: low temperature lining; TV: high temperature lining), ISO standard gray scale, washing fastness tester.

sampling
4cm×10cm (containing all colors, if the colors are spread, prepare a few additional pieces) (including all colors, if the colors are scattered, prepare a few more pieces). Sewing is done along the wool fiber direction and the short side of the front side. All four sides should be sewn using yarn and loose fibers.

Operation steps
1. First, for 4 hours, adjust the humidity of the sample with the standard environment (202°C 652%).
2. Determine the temperature, then warm the test solution in the steel cup for 5-10 minutes before inserting the test cloth. (The test technique is determined by the customer's needs, and the appropriate test type is chosen.) After the test, wash it twice in 100ml of distilled water at 40°C for 1 minute each time. Shake off excess water and air dry at no more than 60°C.

Rating
After 1 hour of humidity conditioning in a temperature and humidity chamber, the rating was given. The sample and the ISO standard gray scale should be situated at 45° to the desktop, with a 90° line of sight to the fabric, and two persons must rate at the same time, with an average value of 5.0.

The way to improve color fastness to washing
The color fastness of printed and colored fabrics to washing is affected by the chemical structure of the dye, the dye-fiber combination, and the dyeing technique. As a result, these strategies can increase the color fastness of fabrics to washing.

Select the suitable dyes
In general, dyes with water-soluble groups perform worse in terms of soaping fastness than dyes without water-soluble groups, and the more hydrophilic groups in the dye molecule, the lower the color fastness to washing. Because acid and direct dyes include more water-soluble groups, their color fastness to soaping is poor. Vat and sulfur dyes do not include water-soluble groups and have a good color fastness to washing. As a result, selecting a proper dye can increase color fastness to washing.

Strengthen the binding force of dye and fiber
The greater the dye's binding force to the fabric, the greater the color fastness to washing. Due to the involvement of metal ions in dyes such as acid mordant dye, acid mordant dye, and direct copper salt dye, the combination between the dye and the fiber is enhanced, and color fastness to washing is improved. Another example is that during color fixing, reactive dyes are covalently linked to fibers, and the dyes become part of the fibers. As a result, the color fastness to washing is improved.
Furthermore, the color fastness to washing of the same dye on various textiles varies. Color fastness to washing of dispersion dyes, for example, is higher on polyester than on nylon. This is because polyester has strong hydrophobicity and tight structure.

Choose right dyeing process
The dyeing technique has a strong influence on color fastness to washing. The color fastness to washing will deteriorate if the dye is badly colored and the floating color cannot be removed.
