Effective System Testing Using Risks and Defect Taxonomies

Talk at the 24th of May 2014

In this talk Michael Felderer presented two recently developed and evaluated testing approaches, namely a novel risk-based testing approach and testing with defect taxonomies, which use risks and defect taxonomies respectively to support system testing itself. For each approach the following topics were discussed: how it is used in all phase of the standard system test process, i.e., test planning, design, execution and evaluation. Then, he showed by industrial case studies how risk-based testing and testing with defect taxonomies can improve the effectiveness of system testing. Finally, he presented practical considerations for applying the approaches and highlighted directions of future research.

Presenter:

Dr. Michael Felderer is a research associate and project manager within the Quality Engineering research group at the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. He holds a PhD in computer science. His research interests include testing and software quality in general, empirical software engineering as well as requirements engineering. He works in close cooperation with industry and transfers his research results into practice as a consultant and speaker on industrial conferences.

Research cooperation: Fronius International GmbH is new COMET partner
At present Within the COMET programme 27 companies work together with SCCH in different research projects. Presentation of the annual report 2006/2007
The recent financial year was the most successful one since the foundation of the Software Competence Center Hagenberg (SCCH) in 1999. Managing director Klaus Pirklbauer presented the annual report in the framework of this year's event for business associaties of the SCCH.
