New Performance Improvement Council Paper Builds Foundation for Leadership in the Workplace

Employee engagement programs drive bottom-line results and build great leaders. While the former is well-known, the latter is lesser known, but equally as important. A new white paper by the Performance Improvement Council (PIC) of the Incentive Marketing Association (IMA) entitled Employee Engagement Programs Institutionalize Leadership Behaviors, reveals that well-designed engagement programs creates a framework on which to build strong relationships needed for success.
In the paper, PIC member and Dittman Incentive Marketing Director of Engagement Susan Adams, CPIM, CEP, explains the importance of engagement programs in building good leaders as well as the positive impact on company culture and bottom line.
“Research shows that those believed to be strong leaders are those who are considered to have strong social skills and a strong results focus,” says Adams. “When a recognition program is in place, it quickly becomes clear that the expectation of the manager is to recognize, reward and reinforce the laudable actions taken by employees.”
Essential to the success of engagement programs is engaged leaders. Organizations can drive this social dynamic with programs that institutionalize support of organizational goals.
“When an organization creates a program of mutually beneficial behaviors and reinforcement, employee engagement is deepened, the social dynamic between managers and employees is improved, leaders inspire more confidence, and the brand message and values are delivered throughout,” Adams concludes.
