LightTrans International announces the latest release of VirtualLab Fusion 2023.1, which brings the amazing fast physical optics technology to a whole new level.

Latest release of Fast Physical Optics software VirtualLab Fusion comes full of new features by making a massive leap forward in detector modeling with its new Universal Detector.

"This release is an amazing feature festival, and it highlights once again the continuous and successful development of our software," said Frank Wyrowski, President of LightTrans. In December, the international optics and photonics society SPIE announced VirtualLab Fusion as a finalist for their 2023 SPIE Prism Award in Software. "The recognition by SPIE is a great honor for us."

"After a year of intensive development we offer new features, applications and innovations with higher speed, easier use, more physics, deeper transparency and better control for the modeling and design of any optical setup," said Christian Hellmann, Chief Developer and Vice President of LightTrans.

Higher Speed
VirtualLab Fusion (VLF) achieves Fast Physical Optics system modeling using two outstanding key technologies. The 1st enables the connection of specialized modeling strategies (electromagnetic field solvers) per optical component. The 2nd applies pointwise electromagnetic field solvers wherever possible. The combination of both technologies is further optimized in VirtualLab Fusion, to deliver an even faster modeling speed than before. Additionally, it improves use of multicore processors for parallel computing with respect to previous versions of the software. The latest benchmark tests showed that the new version is more than twice as fast as the last version, 2021.1.

Easier Use
VirtualLab Fusion 2023.1 introduces a comprehensive help and assistant concept, which will be steadily added to in a dynamic manner. This new assistant explains features on demand inside the software.
At the same time, it comes with a new modeling Profile Editor, Profile Editing Tools and further unified Data Views. These tools facilitate a smooth learning curve with VLF 2023.1 for those starting out, and bring new insights and a more user-friendly experience even to seasoned users.

More Physics
The new Universal Detector constitutes a massive leap forward in detector modeling. Before VLF 2023.1 fields had to be propagated to all active detectors in the system. Should this last propagation step to the detector be a computationally heavy one, having to repeat the simulation multiple times added unnecessary numerical bulk to the process when several different detectors were located at the same position. With the new release, this changes drastically by fully exploiting the power of physical optics. The Universal Detector receives from the engine the information of the electromagnetic field that reaches the plane where it is located. Since the electromagnetic field carries all physical information about the light, from this information the Universal Detector can directly calculate any additional physical magnitudes of interest using a system of add-ons, whereby the user can load into the Universal Detector as many add-ons as required to produce the desired results: e.g., aberrations, amplitude, intensity, irradiance, illuminance, radiant and luminous intensity, degree of coherence, polarization, color temperature, beam parameters, spot size, and the shape and length of an ultrashort pulse, among others. It is also possible for users to directly implement their own custom add-ons using the programming environment provided for this very purpose. And the best of it: Any missing detector function can be delivered quickly on customer request without a new software release.

More Transparency
One until now outstanding goal was to increase the transparency of VLF technology.
With this in mind, the new VLF Assistant provides insights into the concepts, the features, the usage, some typical troubleshooting, and recommended further readings. The new modeling Profile Editor and Profile Editing Tools also provide a complete and transparent overview of the system and modeling parameters. Some new characteristics of the System Modeling Analyzer strengthen its functionality and give better insight into the effects of the modeling steps.
And for a really close look at what is going on internally during your simulations, the Process Logging in VLF 2023.1 provides more and more detailed information about the performance of algorithms, data sampling, process parameters, and CPU time per modeling step.

Better Control
The new Profile Editor provides full insight and full control of all system and modeling parameters. It functions as your modeling and design control center by offering well-structured access to all relevant parameters all in one place and giving you smart features for fast editing. And with the unique Expert Modus of VLF 2023.1, a wider range of advanced manipulations of data objects are enabled for the first time.
