Press release from: EPG Health Media

Over the last three decades the prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus has increased from 30 million in 1985 to 366 million in 2011 and this figure is expected to reach a staggering 552 million by 2030.[1] In Europe the current number of people with diabetes accounts for 8.5% of the adult population.[2] However the true figure is likely to be much higher as recent data suggests that 26% of men and 22% of women with diabetes are undiagnosed,[3] meaning further education is critical in the fight against diabetes.

Finding effective treatment and management options for the ever-growing number of patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a key concern for doctors globally. Arming healthcare professionals with the information they need is key to beating the global epidemic, and with this in mind, today’s launch of the free Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Knowledge Centre has come at a perfect time.

Hosted on the disease and medicines knowledge base, www.epgonline.org, the interactive Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Knowledge Centre provides HCPs with access to clear, concise guidance from WHO and ADA on the diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Physicians can also find information on the preventative measures as well as non-pharmacological and pharmacological treatment and management options for this disease. HCPs are invited to access the resource for free at http://www.epgonline.org/diabetes/type-2/knowledge-centre/.

Supported by an educational grant from Novo Nordisk, the Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Knowledge Centre is essential viewing for healthcare professionals with an interest in diabetes and its co-morbidities.

“With the ever increasing prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, it is essential for busy healthcare professionals on the front-line to have easy access to the latest information” said Chris Cooper, Managing Director of EPG Health Media. “By working with our partners at Novo Nordisk, we have been able to provide our users with an invaluable diagnosis and treatment Knowledge Centre, bringing together clinical trial evidence and guidelines from leading organisations like National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, American Diabetes Association and International Diabetes Federation.”
