Local Producer Rewinds to Idol Audition, Fast-Forwards to Doctor “S”

San Antonio – One of American Idol's most memorable contestants will look back on his experience, and reflect on his career now, in an upcoming episode of American Idol Rewind.

Michael Druck, a San Antonio native, auditioned in Austin for season 2 of the hit reality series. His memorable dance moves and performance of I'm So Excited earned him “Best of the Worst” status and exposure on such entertainment and news programs as Access Hollywood, ABC's Good Morning America, and A&E's Biography of Simon Cowell. Druck's audition also drew the attention of Rewind producer May Johnson, who contacted him through his MySpace page about appearing on the syndicated series to discuss his AI experience and what he's doing now.

After a 24-hour bus ride, an exhausted, but excited Druck arrived in Los Angeles to meet with Johnson and Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe. After a quick hair and make-up session, he was then lead into the studio to sit before the cameras and relive his days as an Idol contestant. A replay of his infamous “deer in headlights” look when Simon breaks his heart and surprise never-before-seen archival footage of his entire audition fills the segment.

Today, Druck is philosophical about his time in the spotlight. For him, auditioning for American Idol wasn't about grabbing his 15 minutes of fame; it was one audition and one step in an ongoing process. Even today, he's thankful for the opportunity it presented to him; according to Druck, “if given the choice, I would do it again, because it helped bring me to where I am now.”

And now, is the impression he has been making on the local film community. With writer/director Bryan Ortiz, he formed Film_Classics, a production company that has created a series of award-winning short films, including Goodbye Digital and Last Chance. Goodbye Digital, a recent winner at the NALIP-SA Film Slam, will screen at the San Antonio Local (SAL) Film Festival on September 28 at the Atzec Theater at 6:15 PM. SAL is also hosting the world premiere of the company’s first feature film, Doctor “S” Battles the Sex-Crazed Reefer Zombies. Tickets are only $10 at the door.

Druck's appearance on American Idol Rewind (which will also feature Season 2 finalists Kimberly Caldwell and Trenyce) will air in syndication the weekend of September 28.

BACKGROUND: Michael Druck started his career in the entertainment industry as a child by performing in theatre. While in high school, he continued his passion for performing before a live audience as he was cast in many of the school’s productions, as well as he successfully competed and placed nationally with the school’s award-winning drumline ensemble, and later segued into studying ballet, jazz, and hip-hop dance. As an adult, Michael has been a principal dancer with Ballet Folklorico Festival and to date, he has danced with this troupe across the US and Mexico in over 300 shows. After spending nearly 5 years as a booking agent for one of the largest talent management firms in south Texas and learning the ins and outs of show business, Michael spent his time building his own actor résumé with credits in Film, Television, Commercials, Corporate Videos, and Live Events. In addition to his work as an actor, agent, and a producer, Michael is an active volunteer for such organizations as Hornsby Entertainment, SATCO (San Antonio Theatre Coalition), The Children’s Discovery Museum, The SA to SA (San Antonio to South Africa) Humanities Festival, The SXSW Music & Film Festival, Texas Non-Profit Theatres, and The Texas Motion Picture Alliance.
