One million hotel vouchers sold on eBay

2013 proved to be a highly successful year for Cultuzz, and the CultBay division also produced an exceptionally positive balance sheet, according to Ted Montreal, Director of Sales and Marketing at Cultuzz. The sales of hotel vouchers on eBay led to a 40 per cent increase in sales compared to the previous year.
“2013 was a highly successful year because our employees pulled together as a team and gave their all”, said Montreal. Alongside the excellent figures, the most exciting highlight was the Daily Deal with the hotel partner Ramada. In this promotion 9'999 vouchers worth over 1.15 million US dollars in total were sold in one day through the eBay Travel category as the Daily Deal. No other Daily Deal in Europe has ever achieved this level of turnover.

Along the way, added the Director of Sales and Marketing, another milestone was reached with the sale of the millionth voucher since the company was founded. Montreal pointed out that the interesting feature where hotels were concerned was the growing trend for fixed price offers, which now make up 56 per cent of all sales. For hotels the eBay hotel auction system is doubly attractive, as the money comes in at a pre-determined rate before the vouchers are redeemed.

Other factors that contributed to the considerable success were promotional offers for hotel rooms in cities like Berlin, Rostock, Prague or Vienna as well as the opportunity to sell a voucher that can be redeemed in various different destinations. “Naturally this is a deal that is of particular interest to large and international hotel providers”, commented Ted Montreal on the success of the new offer.

Since the current year will once more benefit from the introduction of new features and functions as well as the growing public awareness of CultBay, Montreal expects sales to rise again in 2014. However, he insisted that the key issue is to ensure that the CultBay team continues to have the best members of staff, who work hard to ensure that every hotel partner, large or small, can use the opportunities on offer to get eBay hotel bookings from the giant pool of eBay customers. “In order to ensure that we continue to provide intensive and successful consultations in the future, we recruited three new Sales Managers at the beginning of the year”, explained Ted Montreal in conclusion.
