SECUPRODUCT: Legally binding counterfeit protection for mechanical and plant engineering

Nottuln, Germany, 3 March 2014. A counterfeit protection system must be quickly and cost-effectively integrated into existing production processes – this is the motto under which 3S Simons Security Systems GmbH presents its industry solutions at the Hannover Messe 2014. The focus is on the counterfeit protection SECUPRODUCT®, which enables the direct security of products, parts and components in mechanical and plant engineering as well as in the automotive and aviation industry. The solution is based on the micro colour code technology SECUTAG® and can be precisely applied to almost all solid materials using a dispenser. In addition 3S also shows the link between traceability and counterfeit protection with SECUDATA® as well as the security of high-value packed quality products with the OTF security label. Increasing numbers of counterfeits

Mechanical and plant engineering is one of the industries which are most effected by product piracy. According to a study of the VDMA from 2012, the estimated damage for this industry is EUR 7.9 billion per year (which is an increase of around 24 percent compared to the previous study from 2010). It is not only individual modules and spare parts which are being counterfeited, it is also components and complex systems, from gear motors and controls to entire machines. In addition, counterfeiters are focussing more and more on small to medium-sized companies. As reported by the VDMA, every second company with less than 250 employees has been affected – an enormous potential threat to German companies of this size.

Due to the fact that only a standard pen microscope with 100x magnification is required, it is not necessary to set up a laboratory for analysis. SECUDATA®: Traceability must be counterfeit protected

Another major exhibition focus of 3S will be on the combination of traceability and counterfeit protection. SECUDATA® combines the logistic advantages of traceability systems (e.g. data matrix and RFID) and counterfeit protection by means of micro colour codes. Both codes are conjointly applicable onto the product, its primary or secondary packaging, labels and closures. Thanks to the micro colour code both the traceability code and the product are protected against counterfeiting in a manner that cannot be legally contested. First the traceability code is checked in databases; the final security is provided by verification using micro colour code. In this way SECUDATA® ensures continuous security throughout the entire goods and material flow, from supplier and production through to trade and consumer.

OTF security label: Combined protection against tampering and counterfeiting

3S Simons Security Systems GmbH has developed the OTF security label specifically designed to protect security-relevant devices and premium packaging used for quality products. This also ensures that online terminals used for cashless payment transactions, for example, are protected against tampering. The advantage of the new closure seal: It is based on Secure-ID® technology and can be completely removed without leaving any residue behind. In contrast to Void films, adhesive residues which might contaminate the protected device are thus avoided. This is a particular advantage for leased instruments.
