Online education platform iversity.org on the road to success:

Berlin, 18 February 2014 – Four months after the first courses launched in October 2013, the education platform of Berlin-based start-up iversity.org has reached nearly 500,000 enrolments in currently 28 courses. A total of 5,000 students completed the first five courses that recently came to an end.

As a pilot run, students were able to obtain ECTS credit points in the courses "Introduction to Business Studies" and "Marketing", even if they were not enrolled at one of the institutions offering the course, namely RWTH Aachen and Fachhochschule Lübeck. In order to earn their credit points, online students had to complete an on-site exam, which could be taken at multiple locations in Germany.

Hannes Klöpper, iversity's Managing Director, comments: "The demand for online courses is growing rapidly. What matters for online students is to receive certificates that count towards their studies. This is how iversity earned its first revenues and how we will enable universities to refinance course production. Thus we will stimulate the creation of a wide range of online courses, which will benefit both students as well as lifelong learners.”

iversity’s first framework agreement with a top-notch European university, the Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi sociali Guido Carli (LUISS), serves as evidence for this claim. This widely recognised university in Rome ranks at the top of national rankings and will invest a six-figure sum into the production of four online courses that will be offered exclusively on the iversity.org platform.

Jörg Dräger, Ph.D., the Executive Director of the Centre for Higher Education (CHE) and member of the iversity advisory board, explains: "We are at the threshold of the digital revolution in education. I am excited that we have iversity as a strong European player in shaping this development."
