Painting (details) by Tomohisa Ishizuka, Ivar Kaasik, Alexander Kosyak and Raphael Pollack

The exhibition brings together works by four artists of different generations and characterized by diverse cultural influences their countries of origin on three continents. As individual as their path to art is also the style of their painting. From photo-realistic to abstract and mini-malist elements, the exhibition covers a wide spectrum of contemporary painting.

Tomohisa Ishizuka / Japan, *1980
“What I want to paint, are pieces that excite me, pieces that shiver my soul. Running lines and throwing colors onto a white blank canvas as the body wishes to move, concentrating on the ever-changing screen, selecting the lines and colors that catch the eye of the heart. As a result, my work becomes complete.”

Ivar Kaasik / Estonia, *1965
Using op-art techniques, but also new multimedia technology, Kaasik puts painting in a modern context. His works are full of ‘naturalness’ - the viewer is free to form their own opinions and not merely swallow the predestined thoughts of the painter or follow any strict guidelines. - Peeter Kormasov

Alexander Kosyak / Russia, *1957
“I construct emotional images-symbols and aspire that in my work they are ambiguous, mysterious, but clearly readable. In some works I create a situation of uncertainty, a flowing transition of the image-symbol from one state to another, as sign of conversion and exchange of modern and ancient cultures of East and West.”

Raphael Pollack / USA, *1942
“My attempt in painting is to create form through color and not the other way around. I love the moment when that happens but it happens so to speak in its own time and especially not when I want it. It’s a process that involves much patience. While painting you watch some-thing grow knowing it can change its direction at any moment.”

Ivar Kaasik's painting is contemporary in its treatment of the concepts of art and nature. His paintings enchant and fascinate the observer with its colours and its boldly cropped views. They transport the beholder into a world of harmony with new perspectives and visions. Ivar

‘One is ever conscious of the transience of all things, and of nature’s smiling indifference, also that art is but imitation of nature. I can say that my work has been influenced by the Impressionists of Europe and by the Abstract Expressionists of America. They eliminate the boundaries of convention and allow the creative spirit to run free. My work with palette knife is like sculpting on canvas with all

Svenson and Alexander Veljanov released single together
"Hiding from me" is the name of the new release of the exceptional guitarist Sven Kühbauch. For the song, he could win Deine-Lakaien-singer Alexander Veljanov. "His voice is epic and goes well with the guitar sound I was looking for," says Kühbauch. The song tells the story of Helios, the Greek sun god. The personification of the sun is said to have chased a four-in-hand carriage across the sky every day.
Loop Melody | Rachel Kaye and Alexander Kori Girard
With foreground and background largely erased, each artist leaves it to the viewer to choose the topsy-turvy direction. Here's one storyline. Here's another. Here's an endless number of storylines vibrating on the surface. Kaye's granular drawings are seasonal, even hourly, depictions of light and intimacy. They blanch in the yellow California summer. They fold in, purple and blue, at twilight. The borders disappear as her shapes meander across one another,
CODY HOYT + ALEXANDER KORI GIRARD | OCTOBER 22
In Cody Hoyt and Alexander Kori Girard’s upcoming show at Johansson Projects, patterned forms and organic geometries come together in an unique exploration of functional permanence and mystic communication. Cody Hoyt’s ceramics are rigorously drawn, curiously angular, and intricately patterned, creating brutalist organic “vessels” that question the need for function over form. The forms are constructed from patterned slabs, which are themselves assembled from smaller individual pieces; a highly individualized framework
