Joggers at the Siegessaeule in Berlin

Joggers at the Siegessaeule in Berlin

"Run and see" is the motto of a company called Sightjogging-Berlin which has startet this summer. Good news for all participants to this year's Berlin marathon which is set for the end of September. Sightjogging combines - as indicated by the word - sightseeing and jogging. Business travellers, conference participants and other sportive Berlin-visitors now have the possibility to do excercise and get to know the sights of the German capital at the same time. Sightjogging guides pick up the guests from their hotels or conference-places and lead them through the center of Berlin for about an hour. Tours lead to the classical-prussian Berlin (Brandburg Gate, Unter den Linden), to political Berlin (along the river Spree and around the Reichstag) and to the Berlin of the 1930s and the wall (holocaust memorial, Wilhelmstrasse, Checkpoint Charly). More tours are in preparation and can be configured individually. All Sightjogging-Tours start at the Brandenburg Gate.

The distance is between 5 and 8 kilometres - 3 to 5 miles. Tours are conducted at moderate jogging speed. The qualified guides of Sightjogging-Berlin - most of them are licenced by the Berliner Stadtführer Berlin Guide e.V. - give advice on good and healthy running as well as information on and stories about the sights of Berlin.

Tours are currently given in German and English (Spanish, Italian, French, Swedish, Russian and Chinese will follow). Prices range from 20 to 80 € per person for a 60 min. tour, depending on the number of participants. The Sightjogging guides can be booked from 6 o'clock in the morning until about 8 p.m., when the "Moonshine-tours" start. At present tours can be booked via the phone numbers: 030 79 78 98 54 and 0163 15 81 396 or via the internet.

The founder of the company is Mrs. Beate Achilles, a recreational jogger, who normally works as a PR and marketing consultant.
Within the year 2008 Mrs. Achilles wants to start Sightjogging also in other German cities like Hamburg, Duesseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt, Munich and Leipzig. Even Singapore and Capetown are already in discussion.

Sightjogging-Berlin was founded in summer 2007. The philosophy of the company is to offer high quality information and sportive advice at the same time. Currently 5 trainers work for Sightjogging-Berlin, most of them marathon-participants and licenced Berlin-Guides with several years of experience in leading sightseeing tours. Sightjogging will, Beate Achilles is sure of this, quickly develop into a brand term like "Nordic Walking" or "Inline Skating". She intends to set the standards for this with her own company.
