A New Start-up Gets Off The Ground To Help Students Find International Internship
2013-11-08 Poznań, PolandFeender.com, has launched. It is a new website which gathers internship and job offers for students and young graduates. Apart from the offers, its users will also find there career advice. The website has an innovative approach to employers, who can submit and publish their offers for free.
For the seekers and those who want to be sought
The basic feature of the website is its easy-to-use interface that allows to browse through the offers submitted by employers. Users can filter them using six criteria: trade, type of recruitment, paid/unpaid internship, country, language and sector. Registered users can subscribe to get notifications sent to their email address each time an offer that matches the criteria they set up appears in the website.
The website charges its users a small fee only if they decide to apply for a job via Feender.com. However, if they add a new unique internship offer, they can apply for any offer available on Feender.com for free.
Marcin Kotus, one of Feender.com founders says: “We wanted to give our users the opportunity to create the website’s content. If they find an offer which they are not willing to apply for, they can submit it to Feender.com to get a free access to any other offer available on the website.”
Feender’s unique feature is that it provides its service for the employer free of charge. This is an extraordinary approach compared to what is offered by other similar websites.
“Submitting the offers is easy and intuitive. It doesn’t take much time either. The offers reach their target well, so all in all, the portal is very useful for the employers” says Bartosz Żyła, co-founder of Feender.com, who came up with the idea of creating the portal. “Using Feender.com brings mutual value for both candidates and employers. Candidates get access to unique and interesting internship offers and the employers reach motivated people who want to gain experience.”
At this moment, there are almost 30 internship offers available for users to apply for. Feender.com team is in contact with universities and employers’ associations. They are in process of establishing strategic partnership which will ensure a constant flow of new unique internship offers for the portal. Feender.com has already secured a partnership with Poznan University of Economics – one of the best business schools in Poland. Internship – a way to recruit a new employee
Hiring interns is getting more and more popular as a way of finding and training valuable employees. The number of companies who do it this way grows each year, because it is very effective. There is no better way to verify what the candidates wrote in his resume and see how they cooperate in teams, meet deadlines, cope with pressure etc. Based on this observation, the employer can assess if the intern may become a valuable employee.
Another advantage of internship is that the cost t of hiring an intern is low, especially compared to hiring somebody full-time. This makes them more and more popular among the employers.
“Internship works well for both employer and the intern. Intern receives adequate training and gains experience valuable for his career development and the company has a relatively cheap workforce” says Marcin Kotus. “If they prove themselves valuable, interns often get an offer of employment. This way, a company saves time and money on the recruitment process. They also reduce the risk of hiring a wrong person”, he adds.
A link between a candidate and the employer
As they observed the labour market, Feender’s founders realised that the ways of getting a job or even internship differ a lot from what it looked like before the economic downturn of 2008-2009. Graduates face a lot of problems when seeking for a job. Moreover, businesses suffer from lack of qualified workforce. Feender.com brings a solution to those problems. It helps to build experience for the students and graduates and fill the niche in supply of skilled workers on the labour market. This applies especially to companies that neither have sophisticated internship programs nor big budgets for promoting it.
“Our mission is to supply unique internship offers, which will differ from what can be found on other websites targeted on students and graduates. Offers from big fish of FMCG or consulting will be available on Feender.com, but they are not our main subject of interest” explains Bartosz Żyła.
Further plans
Primary, Feender.com will focus on getting offers from Germany and United Kingdom. Those countries have the biggest labour markets in Europe and demand for well educated student or fresh graduates is high there. Nordic countries, will be the next stop, known for multicultural environment and well-developed work ethos.
“We are used to the mindset that we should work where we were born. This is getting harder each year. Looking for employment abroad is a sound idea” Żyła continues.
Keeping in mind their background, the founders will make an effort to attract companies from the banking sector. Both Żyła and Kotus earlier worked at banks which had a good position on Polish market. Apart from that they will also put emphasis on start-ups and NGOs when it comes to obtaining the internship offers.
Feender’s founders are constantly working on improving portals functions and its usability. Their aim is to consequently optimise the process of looking for the internship as well as looking for an intern and - subsequently – a valuable employee.
