Acorn release informative eBook on learning management systems (LMS)

The learning management system (or LMS) is software application that handles all aspects of the learning process - including housing, creating, delivering and tracking learning. With so many eLearning systems out there, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and confused when looking for a solution. The Acorn subject matter experts dove in and wrote a comprehensive eBook that analyses and discusses the LMS and its evolution, LMS features and functionalities, how to find an LMS that's a good fit, LMS deployment options and alternatives to the LMS.

The world has moved from an educational dynamic in which the learner-teacher relationship is outcome-oriented and based on a power structure to one that is rooted in collaboration and process focused. Learning management systems can be deployed in two different forms: via the cloud or by self-hosting an open-source system. There are pros and cons to both, and ultimately the best fit comes down to intended use and required features.

The Acorn experts acknowledge in their eBook that an LMS won't be the best fit for every use case. There are a range of factors such as budget limitations, seasonal training, limited courses and select cohort training that might warrant a different solution. These include plugins, native networks, eLearning portals and content management systems.
