Mandy Barnett, Kelly Lang and Jeannie Seely Among Women Honored

Nashville Women In Film and Television presented the 2022 WIFT Alice Awards, at the Carlocker Motorcars Bentley showroom in Brentwood, Tennessee, on May 21st. The Alice Awards, named after Alice Guy-Blache, the world's first female director, honored entertainment creatives across a wide spectrum, including the Grand Dame of the Grand Ole Opry, Jeannie Seely, singer/songwriter Kelly Lang and Mandy Barnett, who famously brought the Patsy Cline story to theater audiences across the country. Bentley Motors was presenting sponsor of the event.

The Alice Awards Gala, a fundraiser for the local Women in Film chapter, each year, honors women in the entertainment industry who exemplify the spirit of Alice Guy-Blache, an extraordinary woman whose strides in filmmaking have gone unpublicized for decades. Guy-Blache experimented with sound during the silent era, with color-tinting during the black & white era, and even with all black casts, and she did all this starting in 1896. The women recognized at this ceremony have all demonstrated perseverance in the pursuit of their dreams despite difficulties, hardships and life's circumstances and each has emerged victorious. In addition to Seely, Lang and Barnett, other honorees were Beverly Keel, Dean of the College of Media and Entertainment at Middle Tennessee State University, Gisela Moore, Project Manager for the Tennessee Entertainment Commission, Candace Saunders, CEO of Saunders Electric and Lyn Plantinga, General Manager of NewsChannel 5, the CBS affiliate in Nashville.

"It truly was an honor to receive the Legacy Award from this prestigious group of accomplished ladies, said award recipient," Jeannie Seely. "Having served on the Board of SAG/AFTRA for some 30 years, I am very familiar with the challenges women have faced pursuing their chosen careers. Hopefully, I am earning this award by mentoring those who will be carrying the torch into the future. Thank you to WIFT for a wonderful evening, including the opportunity to meet so many inspiring women."

"To be chosen for the 'Icon Award' is very humbling since there are so many other talented women who could have been selected," added Kelly Lang. "I am deeply touched to be acknowledged in such a special way."

The Alice Awards marked the culmination of the Fourth Annual Southern Women in Film & Television Summit, three days of industry panels, workshops, and networking activities, plus a number of special events including a celebrity fashion show, showcasing fashions by Project Runway alum, Johnathan Kayne and Nashville fashion icon, Manual; a songwriters showcase, featuring an array of talented female songwriters and an afternoon of films.

Sunday's agenda spotlighted faith based films, featuring a panel of speakers that included Sheila Erwin, whose sons produced the popular 2018 faith based movie, "I Can Only Imagine," Paula Mosher Wallace, owner of the streaming network, Bloom Broadcasting, and country singer, John Berry, who previewed his upcoming inspirational album.

The presenting sponsors for the event were Saunders Electric, Bentley Motors, Pinnacle Bank, and the Wang Vision Institute.
