Raycap Strikesorb Technology: Special Electrical Surge Protection Devices for PV-Plants

Munich, May 24, 2013 – Raycap Electrical Protection Systems, a global manufacturer of electrical protection solutions, will present its electrical surge protection devices on booth 255 in Hall B4. Highlight at Intersolar are the new Strikesorb® 35 modules. They feature enhanced performance characteristics and are specifically designed to protect the DC power circuits of photovoltaic systems rated up to 1,500V DC. In the case of a lightning strike the Strikesorb 35 modules will divert the current to ground and away from the sensitive equipment located inside the inverter or throughout the rest of the system. Thus they protect not only sensitive electrics of inverters, but the complete system. The new Strikesorb 35 models have been tested and are compliant to prEN 50539-11 and UL 1449 3rd Ed:2011

The patented Strikesorb® technology was developed especially for industrial use. Due to its specific design it is not only extremely efficient, but also protects electric systems throughout the whole lifecycle. Strikesorb even withstands multiple direct lightning strikes i.e. multiple lightings, and secures continued functionality and maintenance-free operation even in rough conditions. This lowers the cost of ownership and raises the reliability and availability of each industrial plant. Raycap grants 10 years of guarantee on its products. Depending on the constellation of the plant, Strikesorb is approved for secure operation even without the need of additional fuses and can be mounted via in-line connection.

Raycap makes a point of testing and certifying its products to the criteria set by national and international standard organizations. Testing facilities include a UL- and VDE-certified test labs. At the company’s factory in northern Greece a new photovoltaic (PV) testing lab has been constructed at the Raycap PV power plant to enable engineers to effectively simulate the performance of the company’s surge protective devices in an actual PV environment.

Manufacturing site in Garching
Since the beginning of 2013 Carsten Wagener, Vice President, Head of Industrial Business, Raycap Electrical Protection Systems, is responsible for the business in Germany and Europe. His new role with Raycap is to raise the company’s image in Germany and the rest of Europe and establish contacts at key industrial accounts. The company is establishing a new manufacturing site at its headquarters in Garching, Munich in order to guarantee availability and respond flexibly to the needs of the local market.
