A quick chat with Rahul Siddharth at Verificient

As Co-Founder and COO of Verificient Technologies, Rahul Siddharth is responsible for the overall operations, branding, and strategy while supporting business development efforts. His background experiences include branding, strategy, operations, business consulting, marketing, art directing, and project management. Rahul has won 40 Creative Excellence Awards while working at, SCG Creative, Alignkraft, Grey Advertising, Comedywire, Bernard Hodes Group (Omnicom), Jack Morton Worldwide (IPG), Zoecom, RSVPdesign, Bayard Advertising, and One Source.

While Proctortrack was the brainchild of his colleague, CEO Rajnish Kumar, Rahul Siddharth was the one who transformed the way institutions view proctoring solutions. He has an MFA in Design and Technology from Parsons School of Design and a BS in Marketing from Fairfield University. His understanding of international markets has helped Proctortrack become a true global brand delivering secure sessions in over 130 countries.

We caught up with him for a short interview.

How do you see the future of online exams?

I believe we're just getting started. During the pandemic, many institutions moved to online exams and don't plan to switch back. Students can now take courses from anywhere, anytime and get their credits online. Thanks to online proctored exams, what was once a major obstacle has become an opportunity for new learners!

There's a lot of concern about student data. Where is the technology headed when it comes to transparency?

If you think about it, proctoring is a one-way process where the test sponsor and institution controls everything. The test taker is mostly unaware of how their data is collected, used, or stored. We are the first to change this. Our Student Privacy and Data Expunge (SPADE) Dashboard is designed to promote transparency during identity verification, remote proctoring, and data lifecycle status post examination.

Students can view when their ID verification was conducted, approved, processed for test integrity, and most importantly, when their data is expunged from servers. Students can also request their institution's administrators to delete data at a click of a button.

We hear that proctoring solutions encroach on student's privacy. What is your take on it?

My stance against "big brother policing" has become stronger as our competitors become more and more intrusive. Tracking eye movements and keystrokes is excessive if you ask me. We capture the minimum amount of data to confirm high-value exam integrity and destroy data as quickly as our clients allow us to, typical 90 days. We never have sold student data to third parties, analytical companies, or marketing companies, and we've never outsourced our proctoring. All our proctors are trained and certified in-house.

How do you stay ahead in the game when there's so much competition around you?

I make it a point to take at least one exam every month on our platform. It reassures me of our capabilities and lets me test our support team's readiness. The best way to experience anxiety and exam stress is to become a student yourself!

I'm also proud of our R&D Team; we've led the industry in firsts since we started 9 years ago. We make innovation our organization's cornerstone and it gives us a competitive edge over our competition.
