Press release from: Indian Head Publishing

Texas writer, G.R. Williamson, has published a Large Print Edition of his acclaimed book on Willis Newton. The outlaw gang robbed trains and over seventy banks-more than Jessie James, the Daltons, and Bonnie & Clyde combined. They robbed a number of banks at gunpoint, but their specialty was hitting banks in the middle of the night, blowing the vaults with nitroglycerine. One frigid night in January of 1921 they even hit two banks, back-to-back, in Hondo, Texas.
They robbed banks and trains in a number of mid-western states and traveled to Toronto, Canada where they held up money couriers for a bank clearing house.
Their biggest haul occurred in 1924 when they robbed a train outside of Rondout, Illinois-getting away with $3,000,000. They still hold the record for the biggest train robbery in U.S. history.
The author interviewed Willis Newton a few months before the outlaw died in 1979 at age 90. The actual account of what Newton described in great detail prompted an extensive historical research in which the author interviewed law officers and people that had known the outlaw and his brothers, first-hand accounts from eye witnesses, newspaper articles, police records, and trial proceedings. The book was originally published in a standard print format and quickly became the most highly acclaimed book on Willis Newton and his gang of brothers.
Now, the new book is set in a Large Print Edition, so those with visual difficulties can read what Newton told the author and what eventually turned up in his historical research. It is quite a story, told with a large array of pictures and illustrations. The book is sold by bookstores and online retailers.
The old outlaw was proud of his life-long criminal career and he liked to proclaim, "Why if you don't get caught, then you're innocent."
