Call Pickup for Lync: colima Cerebro is an useful addition to Microsoft's basic function CU1 Group Call Pickup
Cerebro Universal Call Pickup is a sensible add on to the integrated Microsoft Lync 2013 CU1 Group Call Pickup feature. This is the result of two publications in which the two Lync features are compared. colima CEO Matthias Friedrichs sees colima Cerebro as a perfect addition to the Microsoft Group Call Pickup basic function in his blog article on UC & beyond. IT expert Greig Sheridan from Syndey, Australia goes a step further in his judgement. For him colima Cerebro is the best solution in the market for Call Pickup features for Microsoft Lync.Compulsory and optional
The function "Call Pickup" or "Get call" is a classic PBX (Private Branch Exchange) feature that has become indispensable as a telephone function for many users over the years. Therefore, the enthusiasm was great, when Microsoft introduced the long-awaited feature "Group Call Pickup" at the Lync Conference in San Diego in February this year. This is now supplied, free of charge, with CU1 (Cumulative Update 1) for Lync 2013. In a direct comparison of the two functions Cerebro and CU1 Group Call Pickup it is clear that the Microsoft function is a basic function with a standard Feature list.
colima Cerebro plays its aces when it comes to further requirements, especially with regard to additional configuration options or hedging with permissions. Thus, according to experience, for many larger companies the opportunity of extended configuration options or permissions is a "killer criterion" in the decision for or against Lync as a replacement for traditional telephone system.
Perfect addition
That Cerebro is the perfect add on for the Microsoft CU1 Group Call Pickup function is highlighted in the direct feature comparison: In 15 of 19 comparison criteria colima Cerebro offers more than the basic product from Microsoft. One rather unusual approach for the American market, turns out on closer inspection as a Cerebro benefit for the user: If the call has already been "picked", you can see the number or the name on the display and then have the possibility to take the call or not.
With CU1 Group Call Pickup on the other hand the caller is directly on the line. While Cerebro is a step ahead, for example, the criteria of "user in several groups," "Uniform Pickup Code", "Direct Pickup", a fundamental advantage in CU1 Group Call Pickup is that it already exists in the Lync licenses and therefore is free of charge. However, CU1 Group Call Pickup can only be used with Lync 2013 and not with 2010 and the installation seems in contrast to Cerebro more complicated. The full comparison can be found in those two articles.
Sensible coexistence for different levels of requirements
Cerebro is a modular application that - just like CU1 Group Call Pickup - it is a purely server side installed component. The user does not have to install any 3rd party software on their own Lync servers. colima CEO Matthias Friedrichs assessed the sensible coexistence of the two functions Universal Call Pickup and CU1 Group Call Pickup: Cerebro offers many useful functions through the interaction with other modules such as BusyOnBusy and so exploits its full strength. Both solutions can be operated and utilized simultaneously on the same system so each user can use the benefits of each solution for themselves." Those who want to test Cerebro free of charge can download Cerebro for a free 30 day trial period from the website colima.
The comparison of the two function modules can be found in the blog article by Matthias Friedrichs. A short summary of the history of the Call Pickup feature, the various types of this function as well as a comparison of several call pickup solutions is given by Greig Sheridan, in his blog article.
