Oscillation Flowmeters for Dry and Wet Gases

Oscillation is a measurement method that is unique for gases and can be used in a variety of ways for flow measurement with the aid of a flow oscillator. With this unique measuring method, a partial flow of the medium is passed through a bypass into the oscillator. In the oscillator, the medium flows through a chamber with two flow channels. A bluff body deflects the flow either in one direction or the other. On one side of the bluff body there is a duct that connects both sides of the oscillator. The flow creates positive pressure on one side and negative pressure on the other side of flow channel. The pressure difference diverts the gas flow to the other side. As a result, the flow begins to fluctuate between the two sides and sets the medium in the connecting duct oscillating. The frequency of the oscillation is a measure of the flow velocity. A platinum hot wire sensor detects the oscillation in the connecting duct and converts it into an electrical signal. The signal is processed in the downstream electronics and displayed or output.
Our oscillation flowmeter model DOG is designed for tough industrial use and works without any moving parts which could be subjected to wear and tear. It is offered with a stainless steel flange design with nominal sizes up to DN 200. The DOG is available in 2 series, namely DOG-4 and DOG-6. The sensors of the DOG-4 series are designed for dry gases and those of the DOG-6 series for humid or wet gases. The sensor for DOG-6 is designed in such a way that it withstands aggressive media, moisture, and dirt. When installed horizontally, the device design leads to drainage of any condensate that may form in the oscillator. Such condensate formation often occurs when, for example, biogas is generated naturally or in a fermenter.
Measurements can thus be carried out for various gases such as compressed air, natural gas, biogas, hydrogen, digester gas, various gas mixtures or for technical gases such as propane, argon or similar.
