To row standing upright is at the first moment a bit wobbly and to master the boat, the wind and the waves you will need to have a certain ability, concentration and at the same time you have to be relaxed. At the beginning it is not easy but some time after the introduction it is possible to master the basic movements and to enjoy it rowing together. And soon it will be an unforgettable sensation: under the large sky it is like walking on the water. Birds fly overhead, fishes jump up out of the water and in shallow waters you can even see mussels and crabs.
Rowingboats all over the world are rowed normaly in a sitting position because this is easier. The venetians are rowing standing upright because only in this way it is possible to row in narrow chanels. In the lagoon this technique allows to see where shallow waters and where fishes are. Moving a rowingboat standing upright it is possible to understand the problems and the advantages of this technique and to understand how this important city had been supplied by these boats for over thousand years.

The rowing school "giro vogando" started in 2006 with lessons in italian and german. Since june lessons in french and english are executed too. It is organised by the german Andreas Götz who wants to make more people getting in contact with this beautiful way of moving on the water.
