Videomapping competition for Genius Loci Weimar launched

We are happy to launch the second international audio-visual video mapping competition for the media art festival Genius Loci Weimar. We are seeking for innovative artistic video projection concepts for three historic facades: Courtyard of the City Castle, Wittumspalais, and the Main-Building of Bauhaus University Weimar.

While media artists are encouraged to develop their own pictorial language towards the spirit of the location (Genius Loci), they should avoid erratic gimmickry and showmanship, intrusive clichés, and careless historical retelling. Until the 15th of April 2013, artists from all over the world are invited to participate with a 30-second videoclip explaining the main concept. An independent jury, together with a public audience, will select the best artwork which will be exhibited in Weimar's city center. The three winning projects will be realized with a prize money totaling €45,000. The artworks will be then presented from 9 to 11 August 2013 in an evening tour through Weimar as part of the Genius Loci festival.

General terms and conditions and more information on:

Genius Loci Weimar is an exciting international festival for multimedia facade projections and site-specific audiovisual performances. The festival combines the historical spirit of Weimar and the contemporary techniques of video mapping, involving static objects in order to create an additional geometrical dimension and optical illusion.

Genius Loci Weimar combines an international competition, exhibition, symposium, club-event, and public evening shows of the awarded projections, thereby offering an overview of the current international video mapping art-production to a wide audience.

In the second week of August, a night parcour through the city center will be the highlight of Genius Loci Weimar, allowing the audience to stroll through this world premier facade-show in which large screen projectors bring the City Castle Courtyard, the Bauhaus University Weimar Main-Building and the Wittumspalais to life. Yet again, every night the spirit of the location will be evoked to transform the static architecture of the facade into a narrative medium. Highly accurate projections on facades in combination with audiovisual elements will bring the building alive to tell its story.

Genius Loci Weimar is organized by MXperience Festival gUG in cooperation with Bauhaus University Weimar, the 'Weimar Summer' and MXWendler.
Genius Loci Weimar is funded by TMWAT, foundation for culture in Thuringia and Weimar city.
