Naples Performers Take Top Honors at the National Music Theater Festival, and NPAC Calls for Auditions for “Annie”

Naples, Fla. – A group of 20 talented youth from the Naples Performing Arts Center (NPAC) traveled to Atlanta to participate in the 2013 Junior Theater Festival on Jan. 19, 20 and 21 after working together for only 18 weeks. The annual Junior Theater Festival brings together people from all aspects of theatre under one roof to celebrate outstanding student musical theatre productions. The 2013 version of the event had over 4,000 people in attendance.

The young performers from NPAC walked away with the “Excellence in Acting Award,” beating out representatives from 83 schools. In addition, a pair of student All-Stars won a trip to Broadway, and NPAC received a National Student Director Award. Students were judged on their 15-minute performance by Tony Award winner Jeff Calhoun, the director of the musical “Newsies” on Broadway. Calhoun later said that he had been moved to tears by some of the students’ performances.

In Naples, Fla., NPAC announced the call for audition schedule for their next show, “Annie.” The first audition will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 9 at The Shoppes at Naples Bay Resort at 1500 5th Ave. South in Naples. The second audition will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on February 11 at the Naples Performing Arts Center at 6646 Willow Park Drive, also in Naples. The show will begin performances in May. There are openings for 100 cast members.
