"art place berlin" shows: "Before the Silence" abstract paintings 1993 - 2013 by Ivar Kaasik, a retrospective
"art place berlin" – forum for contemporary art at the Park Inn Berlin-Alexanderplatz honors with the exhibition in a special way, twenty years artistic work of Ivar Kaasik in Berlin. The exhibition will be opened by HE Mrs. Dr. Kaja Tael, Ambassador of Estonia. The introduction to the exhibition will be given by Mr. Harry Liivrand, Cultural Attaché of the Estonian Embassy, renowned art historian and art critic and former director of the Tallinn Art Hall.
"The exhibition by "art place berlin" also shows Kaasiks latest works, the most radical abstractions within his oeuvre so far. In mostly large-scale oil paintings the notions of the artificial and the natural are blurring. They seem like a tribute to artists such as Joseph Albers and Mark Rothko, or the phenomenological light in the impressive works by James Turrell.
Kaasik tries to reduce the elements in the paintings to a minimum. Seamlessly painted in oil, Kaasiks canvases have an artificial liveliness. An ethereal sheen creates an electrifying aura that is both intellectual and synthetic. At first, the pictures seem like windows in a room with colored light that defy the laws of physics.
You can think of everything, but nothing concrete, when standing in front of his large-scale abstractions, because Kaasik waives on motifs. It was doubts and curiosity that set this process in motion. Kaasik rarely tells in these paintings. There is only an inkling, an plea before the silence." - Harald Hofbauer (cited in extracts)
"Cool and fashionable, symbolical and expressive, putting together modern art history, big names of abstractionism and very personal attitude – such is my characterization of Ivar Kaasik. 20 years of making abstract art means for Kaasik that such kind of styles like op-art or geometrical art are still actual expression and have always new ways of developing." - Harry Liivrand

Sands of Time - paintings by David Snider exhibited in Berlin
‘One is ever conscious of the transience of all things, and of nature’s smiling indifference, also that art is but imitation of nature. I can say that my work has been influenced by the Impressionists of Europe and by the Abstract Expressionists of America. They eliminate the boundaries of convention and allow the creative spirit to run free. My work with palette knife is like sculpting on canvas with all…
